Don't go for the golf cart batteries, I can tell you from experience. Besides you do not want anything like that venting anywhere near your scuba gear. The AGM is a good bet. The right charge controller, like a Morningstar MPPT 45 or Prostar 30-M would be good. Despite your battery condition...
If you don't have the crimpers and want to order high quality ready made cables, you can use powerwerks.com enter custom cable in the search box. You can then specify the cable size, type, end, length, and opposite end. The lug cables will be professionally sealed, with the high quality shrink...
I know Odyssey are quite popular. I have ready a lot about charging issue with them. I am so far quite pleased with the DEKA Intimidator AGM I got. Under no circumstances would I recommend anything that Interstate is selling.
I'm doing something similar, with the Rover. See my recent post in the Traxide link under Land Rover section.
2 batteries, 1 Yellow Top AGM, 1 Deka 9A94R AGM
1 Traxide SC80 Battery Splitter (switching to a 160 soon)
1 100 Watt Grape Solar Panel (more would be nice if you have the room)
1...
Mounting on the roof does make a huge difference, I know because I have one on the roof originally. It is a pain to fold up and down, so I installed one on the fender, and did lose a lot of signals compared to the other. For "normal" use though, it should be fine, but just be aware of that if...
I just wanted to say a few words about Grape Solar. I purchased a couple of their 100W flex panels about this time last year, as well as several other brands to do testing, and work on a commercial vehicle solar kit I am thinking of building.
I managed, as careful as I have been to crack a...
I couldn't find Exide around at all, and nobody at the company answers the phone anymore. There was a bankruptcy filing or a huge layoff. In any event-- I finally got tired of the issues with Interstate. I've never gotten more than 2 years out of a battery. Finally on the 5th battery, still...
I didn't take it as brash, I just wanted to be sure I was not misunderstood. As for the made in china stuff, they can keep it. I would rather pay more for a product made elsewhere. The problem once you engage with a company there, is they will take your proprietary stuff, produce your product...
Those are all great points. I never implied by my previous comments that masterpull owned amsteel, I simply pointed out that the web site someone mentioned, is in fact owned by masterpull, their name is on it at the bottom of the page. http://amsteelblue.com/ I'm pretty sure we've established...
The kits are only sold from Tim at Traxide. Which kit you want depends on what you want to use it for, and how handy you are coming up with your own wiring and plugs, etc. Happy to discuss it with you. Review the previously posted Traxide thread, and drop me a PM if necessary.
Gang, Amsteel Blue is a brand of Masterpull--- Check the footer of the web site. If you are interested in either product I believe you can simply contact Masterpull. They also sometimes have an odd size or special on this or that. What I liked when I ordered is that they custom made up...
This brings out a good point. I like my Synth line, but I kept the original line just in case. The Synthetic probably would not be a good bet to use in the snow/rust belt, as I imagine it could end up a frozen mess when you need it.
I'll keep my high end synthetic, but would not toss out the...
Clear Marine Silicon RTV Sealant on glass or metal is what I use on that and similar issues. It's like glue when dry, but will peel off easily enough if you need to disassemble. Marine places sell it on small tubes.
I believe they make something specifically for door seals, which won't harden...
The only common electrical concerns are the brake light switch (replace) and corrosion on the negative battery cable (inspect & replace) if there is corrosion. Inspect the cowl for warping, above the cabin air inlet, if it is warped, replace and run a silicon bead where the warping occurs. This...
I've been telling people to change the oil every 60-75k on the transmissions for years. I supply a lot of diffs and drive train parts.
While on the subject, differential fluids every 30k miles or so, transfer case every 60k miles as well.
The problem in the transmission is internal to the transmission, with regard to 3rd gear, I doubt it is the torque converter. Evidently the torque converters on the TDV6 go out regularly, not so much on the Petrol versions. They both use different torque converters.
