Thanks to you and Trailrider71 for having that key bit of cost prohibitive info. I guess I'll wait until the current system fails or malfunctions before doing this mod.
Neat idea and one a lot of us could get behind. I wonder if they will import it here and if our gas engines can haul it as well as the diesels they are going to put it on.
I have an 07 F250 PSD. It has that hideous transfer case selector knob on the dash. Does anyone know what is involved in switching that to a lever on the floor making it a mechanical connection?
You know, You can buy one that has not been prettied up for a lot less and do it yourself.
If you are unsure of your mechanical ability. Don't worry. I am a lousy mechanic but have restored my 42 Willys jeep and 53 Army ambulance and a Duece and a half.
Here's the secrets.
1, Buy the army...
The OP's post is just an excuse for us to talk about cheap military surplus trucks. :sombrero:
I was passing through the Lucerne Valley area and stopped in at $100 dollar man. It was a close thing. I almost left with a 5/4 ton ambulance. His price was good and the truck was nice.
Rather than doing a power point I took the Mrs. to an Airstream dealership and let her fall in love with the 25 foot front bedroom model. * :) Once that happened she was easy as far as the outside walk from the truck and getting a pop top truck camper for wilderness camping. Although I must say...
I've been down this road and don't be surprised if your research leads you to some other set up.
We went with an 25ft Airstream and a truck. There is a pop up camper in the near future. That way we have travel in comfort and have wilderness ability.
Think about making a pick up truck the...
Two K doesn't seem bad as the van has a diesel and looks unmodified nor does it show signs of hard use or rust.
What's the inside and underside look like?
The craigslist van has rust problems and a big block gas engine but it does have 4X4 already.
You guys need to wise me up.
My new jeep is a 95 Wrangler with a 4.0 I like the inline six. It has tons of low RPM low end torque. That lets me crawl or putt off road and on raggedy dirt roads very nicely. I'm also told they last forever. What's bad about this that a V6 will be an improvement...
Hi Bill,
Since your here I thought I'd tell you about my dream Earthroamer.
It's pretty close to the Dodge Earthroamer in post #21. The body of the camper is short and there is storage on the back and around the bottom. I'd extend the cabover bed because a big bed is a comfy bed.
Thanks
I've had very good experience with the plastic Coleman Extreme. The food cooler will hold ice out in the Mojave for four days for the first two years.
After two years their performance starts to decline. I guess the lid to body seal starts to go. So every two years I grab a couple more during...
Thanks for the input and suggestions everyone.
The truck tent will be used in the deserts of Cal, AZ and Nev. I wondered about it's rain proofness because camping in monsoon season is a favorite around our house. Usually though we'll just be somewhere "out there" for three seasons a year. In...
We camp with out Yellow Lab and German Shepherd. Once the Lab falls asleep he's not waking up for anything. Unless the Shepherd hears something and wakes him up. She wakes up at everything but only makes noise for big critters and people.
