    Chevy Autoride Suspension for Overlanding

Autoride is awesome for overlanding. But takes three steps to make it perfect. Step 1: unhook the johnson rods and disconnect autoride from all 4 corners. Step 2: Install new shocks such as bilstein 5100s. Step 3: pull the autoride fuse to disable the dash warning light. Beyond that, you...

2000 Suburban K1500 budget low lift with 37"s

Ivan, Yes, I'm lazy. Thats the short of it. Raptor bumper has a vertical edge for a little bit of structure and I would have to cut it off and make new bumper mounts to raise it. I am thinking about just using factory front bumper and make a cover to hide that gap. Stay tuned for more shenanigans!

    My 02 Avalanche NFE

Sorry to hear about the accident. Pretty appropriate that you got a North Face Avi. Can't wait to see how that beast turns out!

2000 Suburban K1500 budget low lift with 37"s

nitro_rat, I thought about it. My angle grinder/plasma cutter skills are superb, but welding those pieces onto my Sub, well, that's not going to happen, I suck at welding, maybe a couple years down the road when I get to practice more, just not right now. Unfortunately. Spare tire carrier...

How much do you cram into your roof?

Sounds like you got a similar setup as I do with the 48"x60" basket and a Jet box. Here is my setup. I drove to Alaska two times like this. I had around 650-800lbs of junk on the roof. But I spread the load out between 4 low profile Yakima cross bars. When I drove to Alaska this was on the...

What can you tell me about the Chevy Avalanche?

badm0t0rfinger, Yeah, absolutely love the look of first gen Raptor bumper on this truck, and yeah lost both the bumperette covers when I took the bumper out of my truck, broke them could not get them on and then lost one of the actual bumperrettes on the trail not too long ago.

    My 02 Avalanche NFE

Ohh the Mojave Rd carnage, I still cringe when I see this because I know that feeling when you have big setbacks like that on the trail and yet still finish it! Once again, excellent fix and ultra heavy duty boxing in!

2000 Suburban K1500 budget low lift with 37"s

Todd n Natalie, I have had my eye out for a 14-19 Silverado step bumper but have not been able to find one under $200, which seems to be a waste of money for a cosmetic piece that I want more than I need. And I really like the look of a cheap plastic Avi bumper for some odd reason. I don't...

2000 Suburban K1500 budget low lift with 37"s

XJLI, Agreed, however there a 20 year old HP60 front end in the southwest will have less rust than a 6 month old front end up here. This Hoe is rusty but the frame is still solid so it passes the annual inspection. I also did not get it for the rusty drive train. I got it for the front seats...

2000 Suburban K1500 budget low lift with 37"s

Avalanche Bumper: part 1 Very soon after I bought my Suburban some 6-7 years ago I began noticing Avalanche and Silverado rear "step" bumpers. I thought that it looks really cool and also practical to get up to the roof rack. I always wanted one. Avalanche rear bumper. Yeah I know the...

    General Ford Expedition Thread

Any gen 2 guys out there? How do you like the "long travel" independent rear suspension? Have you driven a gen 1 Expedition and how does the ride compare? Off road, on gravel, washboard, technical terrain? I am very intrigued by the IRS and how it compares to the live axle.

    Tire size question

I have always been a big fan of trimming and gently massaging the fenders until there is no more rubbing. It's only painful the first few cuts and whacks, then it becomes enjoyable. Did that on my 2000 Sub and my 2011 Sub, neither rubs now.

dirtdobberoffroad, Unfortunately it's not from the Avi, which has the regular NP8. This one is from my newest parts truck that I accidentally picked up yesterday. 2004 Tahoe. Runs, drives, no check engine codes, flowmaster exhaust which sounds fantastic, clear title and did I mention it...

    Overlandtowater’s solid axle suburban

Go big or go home, I say go with 37s they worked well for me. LOL. Just a thought but a quick $3" body lift and 315 will fit great and not rub. Maybe a tiny bit of fender trimming and massaging with a 5lb sledge. Don't fear the gear. I ran 37s with 3.73s for a year and off road the Sub was...

2000 Suburban K1500 budget low lift with 37"s

4 wheel drive type? I have seen many different AWD and 4x4 configurations in many GMT800 SUVs. However this is a first for me. Has anyone else seen this button configuration? It's a 5.3 motor. Non selectable permanently engaged front diff and a selectable 4hi and 4lo transfer case? I am also...

paroxysym, Thank you very much for taking the time and reading through the entertaining build and adventures. 2000 Suburban K1500 budget low lift with 37"s

nitro_rat, I think the 37" tires at 15-18psi is the only reason why my IFS is still functioning. 8" of usable sidewall doubles the wimpy 8" of factory suspension travel and sucks up all the little bumps allowing the suspension to work less hard. I also pretensioned the bushings at near full...
