Awesome, thanks for the write-up! Not a job I am looking forward to but has to be done and if I am in there with the mounts loose anyway, then why not at that point.
Are the engine mounts solid or rubber on the D3/4? The reason I ask is, maybe it would not be bad to do them at the same time if...
Go to your local home store and buy some foam from the building section. Cut it with a sharp razor blade for the bottom to hang over the rack. Put the kayak directly on them and run the strap over the kayaks. The weight and straps hold it down.
If you run two and they are too wide, lay them...
Connor,
I love whatching the build and when I finally get around to my own Defender, I'll have lots of references to go back to on here.
I build and pressure test a lot of tanks for my bikes; gas tanks and oil tanks. My recommendation is pressurize to 1psi and let it sit for 15 min. If it...
I took my rack and awning off my LR3 this weekend to ship my Rover to SoCal in the coming weeks. My buddy is moving so he offered to load my kit up with his household stuff and I'll pick it up from him when the Rover arrives on the boat. Saves me not having to put it in a container and the...
Not sure where I am in line, but somewhere behind everyone who suggested the IID Tool from GAP Diagnostics. Then tires, then the rest of your kit.
Look forward to seeing where you go with your build.
I'd be willing to relocate my antenna to lower my rack with different rack rails for my FR flat rack. With that said, I never open my moonroof so that is not a factor for me. I plan to put new moonroof seals in just for insurance of no leaks. I'm going to see how close it gets to the rack...
I too have some FR corrosion issues I plan to source a fix with when it gets to the mainland. The corners are the worst and it appears maybe be aluminum is was not clean before powdercoat.
With that said, I love the rack but it should come standard with stainless hardware.
Noise doesn't...
I have my GAP tool programed so when I put the LR3 in reverse, it raises to off-road height so when I back over things, I don't scratch my bumper!
hahahhhahahahaaha JK JK....but what a good idea thought right? :smiley_drive::safari-rig:
I believe the best set up would be a flat rack such as FR with much lower profile mounting rails. Nothing against the Prospeed, I just believe the flat rack system is a more capable option for overlanding.
Of course there is that moonroof and antenna problem for FR racks which is why we can't...
Not really a ticking sound. Sounds very similar to a header gasket leak I had on a previous vehicle. I understand the ticking noise could be timing chain issues correct? I do not believe that is the sound I am hearing though. It honestly could be coming from the header to CAT joint area. I'm...
Has anyone replaced the exhaust manifold GASKETS on their LR3? When I ordered my suspension and trans filter parts, I ordered the left and right because I think my left is leaking a bit. Since they were not too expensive, I put them on the shelf. I am wondering if the best time to do it is...
17" LR Factory Wheels on the Way
A special thanks to A.J.M. for gathering up my wheels and setting up UPS global shipping from the vacinity of Glasgow, Scotland to Kailua, Hawaii, U.S.A. The 5 x wheels are on the way and should be here next week. And so it begins!............
Connor,
Good idea on looking into drilling drain holes and plugs. If I pull the front carpet completely out, I will surely do it. Of note, the seat bolt holes are definetely drain holes if left out. I have my back seat bolts out and I can hear and feel air flowing through them when I drive...
Correct, if the silicon contains acetic acid. So yes, be sure you use grade silicon without acetic acid because that is what eats the aluminum in silicon products. Automotive silicon usually doesn't have acetic acid for this reason. acetic acid is the etching portion that helps make silicon...
Correct!
From what I can see, Cooper Discoverer AT/3 comes in a 265/65R18 in two different ratings; they come in a P265/65R18 114T (C Rated) advertised for use on SUV page and LT265/65R18 122R (E Rated) advertised on the Light Truck page.
1) P265 with speed Rating T with Load Index 114 is for...
