Just stumbled on this great video compilation of modern unimogs in different off-road conditions:
This is also just for their implement carrier versions and not even the extreme off-road models.
I'd love to buy a U218 and put an 11-13 ft camper box on it some day if they ever bring new...
I'm 6'2" and I sleep comfortably in this configuration if I layer 2 pillows as a bit of ramp for shoulders/neck/head, sleep at just a slight angle if not, or side sleep and naturally bend my knees just a little. It is 75" inches at its widest (not counting the ribs or paneling).
Thanks for the compliment! I really did spend a lot of time working through the design and sourcing high-quality components. My approach was balancing "where maximalist capability meets minimalist design" which basically equates to "thoughtfully overbuilt simplicity" in my book. I see way too...
On mine, it indicates a 3812 lb payload so pretty close. Really amazing payload on these. Even with the comparatively light load of the SpaceKap, I do recommend upgrading the stock shocks and adding some SumoSpring Rebel helper springs or equivalent to the rear. Very confidence inspiring...
Update time. I decided to take the jump and purchase a LiFeBlue 300ah LiFePO4 with low temperature heating feature and bluetooth SOC monitoring. I also pulled together all the other necessary gear, so when the battery arrives, I'll detail the new setup.
No, I used an engineered closed cell foam called K-Flex Clad WT:

It is a very nice product. Closed cell foam with nice white cladding layer and pressure sensitive adhesive backing. I cleaned all the fiberglass...
After looking at my options, I think I will wait a little longer to upgrade to really be worthwhile. I think I want to build a system around a 300 amp/hr LiFePO4 8D battery. To be continued...
Thanks for the recommendation. I'm actually not too worried about mobility. I'm planning on just strapping the new battery box assembly under my bed like the ArkPak 730. Here is the kind of box I am thinking about if I go with just one of those 170 amp/hr Renogy Batteries...
I have my secondary house battery system built around an ArkPak 730 with a 100 amp/hr BattleBorn LiFePO4 Battery which has generally been working great. I use all of the terminal connections, 50 amp anderson plugs, and available plugs/ports (120v, USB, cigarette plugs) which works out perfectly...
There honestly isn't the space for proper adult sized bed in the cabover in these, so you would need to devise some kind of folding overhang to accommodate an adequate bed platform lengthwise rather than how I have mine oriented width wise. I find the cabover is great for bulky/lighter storage...
Thanks! I do leave the heater on full time, but it is easily removable when unlocked. It is the portable diesel planar version and I attached it via this lockable mounting bracket for pelican cases: http://eo2fastener.com/
This is a long overdue rig project posting of a 2017+ F250/SpaceKap Diablo 8’ camper conversion!
The genesis of the project was the desire to build a full-time luxury overland vehicle...on a reasonable budget and timeline! I previously owned a Jeep Patriot Trail Rated with Autohome Columbus...
Thanks all for indulging me on this and for all the great feedback right out of the gate! Indeed, a Unimog in particular would be a particularly ridiculous vehicle to attempt this with...which is part of the intrigue and appeal to me!
I'm trying to negotiate with the battery makers or would...
Hello All-
I have a hypothetical for a somewhat crazy project I have been mulling over and would appreciate it if any of the great folks on this site might be good enough to share their deep and obscure vehicle knowledge with me on something.
Generally (or specifically) speaking, what would it...
I ended up ordering the LOD with full guard in the end! Spendy but would appear to be the heaviest duty alternative I could find to ARB. Last thing I need as a full timer is to have my F250/Spacekap rig get totaled or put out of commission for weeks for repairs hitting a buck in rutting season...
