with all that towing how about a burb with the 6.5 turbo diesel??
I have a 70 burb with a 350 gasser and I love it...don't tow but for everything else we do it is a great rig for camping and around town.
Most of southern Baja is beat to a pulp and it is so sad that the US mainstream media isn't giving it much attention.
Here in Phx the news will whine for days about a little flooding while not saying a word about the devestation down south.
Thanks for the alert on this.
Great write up and pics...
I have really missed your travel stories Travis, you are a real life person just making it happen.
Keep it coming sir!
Oh and nice bike, I like the old school aspect of it.
My 16yr old son is a great example of why we need something better between 250cc and 650cc.
His DRZ400 is a good bike but it would be nice if it handled the slab better. At least it is light enough he can pick it up off road.
However there are not alot of options in this engine range.
KTM 390...
If you want digital you can download Adobe PDF reader and the Terrago Toolbar and download all the free cool maps you want from our gov.

Exped Mega Mat is amazing for me & my wife.
I have a horrible back due to amputation of R leg below the knee and shattered pelvis. After trying every pad I could the Exped is amazing.
I would also suggest some harbor freight grey interlocking foam mats as a base for the pad and just to make a...
Verizon has always amazed me while traveling in the desert southwest. I get great coverage especially for text (which you should always try instead of voice for getting through).
Add a cell booster in your rig and it is crazy where you can get a signal.
However if you travel to Mexico then ATT...
Looks like a great time and nice group to travel with
Thanks for posting the pics, I never get tired of looking at that area or traveling through there
Delorme would be just fine for you...
If you know the name of where you want to go you can search that, set as destination and start as your location then it will auto-route.
If you are looking at a map and just see something interesting you can click that spot and set as destination and it will...
I have been running Topo 9 since it came out, and Topo 8 before that....have not figured a need to upgrade to 10 yet as I am very happy with 9.
I run an Acer One netbook with Topo 9, Oziexplorer and Adobe PDF reader with TerraGo Toolbar.
This gives me USGS Topo maps, Delorme for autorouting...
Great write up Kurt and good to get some behind the scenes tales of the adventure.
Lots of logistics to manage with folks flying in & out, fuel, vehicle service and more. Impressive.
Ditch Bag...
just like bush pilots, we have the need to jump out of a rig that might have caught fire (easy to do in dry brush country), bogged in a flash flood/beach/mud, off camber and tipping off a cliff...anything that means grab a bag and ditch the rig.
I have such a bag right behind the...
You can run Oziexplorer on Windows 8 and the maps are free from the USGS....not hard to walk you though the steps of getting the maps downloaded and setup. Once you do it once or twice it is a breeze.
There is also free gov site to download GeoPDF maps and you can run them on apps.
I just ended...
I will give another vote for the PETT & wagbags...good to hear about ebay as a bag source
I later switched to a hospital type folding beside commode as it packs easier and is more stable for me as a guy with a prosthetic leg.
I would agree with the suggestion you look at all your gear very carefully for size & wgt.
Chairs....lots of ways to go smaller & lighter, great thread on the Great Chair debate here on Expo
Cooking gear, I bet you could make some changes if you really thought about what you NEED vs what you...
