The working - camping OBS F-350

What about something like this: http://aftermarket.auburngear.com/ected-max.html?dir=asc&limit=all&make=147 I was looking into it myself - but I dont see the sterling application anymore for some reason... Anyway, it's certainly NOT a 'locker' and with as big of trucks as we have, wouldn't...

    Project "Autonomous" F-350

Not sure what area of the 'west' you're in, but in my area (Washington) there's actually quite a bit. Might be over your budget though... They hold their value really well...

What options do I have for a flatbed 'shell', with pass through?

Following.... I'm looking to do the same, only hoping to modify by removing the 'center' seats and cutting out some sheet metal to make it 'walkable'. Sorta like what you see in EarthRoamer.

So with your service body you couldnt pull a gooseneck/5th? I thought they were typically low enough to accommodate those. Have you found the added rigidity of the flatbed to be sufficient? Many of the large size global vehicles encourage use of spring mounted systems or 4 point systems...

Hey Seabass Thanks for your input! I always appreciate hearing from different viewpoints and experiences! I've read through your threads a few times too. Its nice to hear another person say the frames on these trucks are well suited. I've done more research lately and have come to the...

Thank you for the input. Unfortunately they don't list a radiator for the 97 7.3, so I will likely be utilizing Mishmoto, which I have heard good things from.

Nice! Always handy to have around! Hopefully your problem is solved. Both sides? Well in other news... after 20 years and 210K miles my stock radiator is finally cracking (top ridges) and needs to be replaced. I really really really really really hope it gets me and my trailer home on...

    Project "Autonomous" F-350

Finally finished reading all 123 pages of your build haha.... Nice work so far! lookin forward to seeing the end product. Some questions though. When working with Atlas springs - what are some things that came up in the discussion so they could build you the right spring for your...

    Project "Autonomous" F-350

In addition to new bolts, I usually slap on some anti-sleaz and spread a very thin layer over the whole bolt. It can help with both proper torque by offering some lube on the threads, and prevent bolts breaking even if rusted (sometimes).

Well from an engineering perspective it certainly makes sense with load placement and stress points, and original design of the frame. That is unfortunate, but I think with some careful consideration I can still make it work - it just means more engineering than I had previously planned on...

HAHA I know that feeling well! Did exactly the same thing - but for me I actually live in my truck (and trailer) so I guess you could say I have 'extra' money (in the form of what would be spent on rent/mortgage) for a custom truck and future trailer build. Which is the reason to do it right...

I did some calculations and I think with 37's and 4.88's it keeps the same RPM range. I have a slushbox though - considering the 6spd swap. Not that keeping similar RPM's is necessary, especially with the 7.3, but I figure it would be nice for mountain roads. Speed really isn't something I'm...

Yeah thats a shame about your photos. Thank you for sharing! I was bummed to be unable to see the pics on your build thread. So same axles....very interesting. I have a 60 up front and sterling in the rear as well @ 4.10s. But that will likely be changing - and adding some 'fake' lockers...

Whoah! Interesting!! I was actually planning on bags front and rear to allow for a softer spring (very rough roads), but pump them up when towing or fully loaded on the highway. Now you have me rethinking things...Can you elaborate? How long did it take to do this? What kind of loads where...

Is the uhaul frame significantly different from the F350? I figured it would be the same basic frame and supports, only longer...maybe I am wrong?? Even if the frame swap has a higher GVWR than the F350, you are probably still limited by the running gear (axles) - unless you are changing...

Yeah I was on some interesting roads the other day and have some minor body seam cracks to fix now. Oops... But it made me seriously consider considering putting the cab on a floating frame so it doesnt get damaged while the frame flexes and does it's thing, but I'm not totally sold on the...

nice set-up! Looks pretty clean! Wish I could say the same about the rust but the previous owner lived in an area with salt use - so hopefully this winter the frame will be stripped for blasting and sealing. Its funny how you mention offers. Within the first 3 weeks of owning the truck I got...

Thank you MTCK Yes I think you are right, but I would be pushing it to the limit. I certainly plan on custom springs to allow better articulation off paved roads along with front and rear air bags to deal with heavy loads at speed. Some quick calculations bring me to over my max GVWR. I'm...
