Thanks for sharing your build with us......lots of good ideas here :) How high is the deck of your flatbed above the frame rails? I'm just starting on my build and need to finalize some of my dimensions while considering CG, overhead/cab clearance and wheel wells for MPT81s. Thanks!
I just received my weekly "spam" from JD and thought of this thread...... http://www.jamestowndistributors.com/userportal/show_product.do?pid=1269&campaign=email021912........
I think your steel/wood frame will work just fine as long as you keep corrosion and rot at bay. I've had very good luck...
If you're looking for something that can be purchased used and relatively inexpensively, I second the Bigfoot.
I used and abused mine and spent 200 days in it one year. It was by far the best mass produced camper I've owned. However, I'm hoping to put an XP from Marc on my new rig.......:ylsmoke:
I recommend Don Thuren in California. I've spoken with him several times about my 5500 and he is receptive to fabbing custom parts. (there are differences between the C&C's and the pickups) However, he needs either the truck to physically be in his shop or he needs the stock components to...
Hope you don't mind me butting in...........but I'm starting a build on a new 2011 Ram 5500 as well so I thought I'd toss in my two cents as to why I chose the Dodge over the Ford. My main reason is under the hood, I love the Cummins. It's reliable, stone axe simple and easy to work on and get...
I think that the DEF would be the least troublesome part of the equation. The DPF is going to give you trouble using anything but Ultra low sulfur diesel. I would definitely recommend one of the "delete" kits that are available if traveling out of North America so that you can run any fuel that...
I tried going through my usual GEICO account for my 5500, but they transferred me to their "commercial division". It is actually a different carrier. They did insure me but I need to do some rate shopping as they were a bit expensive. I had my Freightliner insured through Interstate which I...
I had a few issues with my M2, which was a 2007 factory build. I was not at all impressed with the build quality. As an example, during routine maintenance and inspection (20k) I noticed that one of the tranny oil cooler lines was rubbed nearly all of the way thru by the transmission mount. In...
I just recently sold my M2 106 4x4 after deciding not to build on that chassis. Of the two, I would give the nod to International for overall quality but I like the engine choices the Freightliner offers.

This will tell you all you need to know about getting your truck to run right.........and be able to use any diesel. (In stock trim, you can only burn North American low sulfur junk) You will really love...
Thanks, I've had 19.5's on three trucks now and with this rig I'm going to go with 20" wheels. I would like to go with the 275/80R20 Conti Mpt81 but it doesn't have the weight carrying capacity I need. I've pretty much settled on the 335/80R20 which is 42" tall and about 14.5" wide. It has the...
