Frame Strength, Who to Believe! The RV Sales Guy or the New Truck Dealer? Maybe Neither?

If you take a close look that truck kinked at the front cross bar / camper Tie down. Not by the rear suspension. It’s possible that tie bar was mounted in a manner that created or developed a weak spot in the frame, but that section of the frame is also where modern crash rated trucks bend ie...

    Burying gray water?

Same septic system issue on a lake near where I grew up in CA. It actually became a super fund site due to this. In the late 80’s the state went after the lake side property owners and it got cleaned up. Its still not great but they have big bass tournaments now and I won the trans Lake race in...

    Burying gray water?

Its not just you. If it was just you no big deal. The problem is you have designated sites with people in them constantly. The whole site becomes a bio hazard with everyone dumping grey water. 28 yrs ago I borrowed an old tent trailer from a coworker. Didn’t even know it had a sink till we...

Frame Strength, Who to Believe! The RV Sales Guy or the New Truck Dealer? Maybe Neither?

That Ram / Eagle combo was together for 35,000 miles according to the owner when TFL spoke to him. Also he had one of those long extension tow bars on it for towing those aren’t cheap to setup. It’s unknown if or what he towed but at the time of the break he had an electric dirt bike hung on the...

What's the weirdest thing you've seen on another vehicle?

Pink member hood ornament on a jeep with 22in wheels and skinny tires. Oddly it wasn’t in CA and didn’t have CA plates which was the most shocking part being I live in CA and had a hard time processing the fact it had TX plates. ?‍♂️

Frame Strength, Who to Believe! The RV Sales Guy or the New Truck Dealer? Maybe Neither?

TFL just did a talk on this truck. Basically it was overloaded and had 30,000 miles of abuse at overloaded weights.

Can someone smarter than me please explain…

Actually the newer hybrids not running old Toyota tech. Are running a cvt so the ICE can power the wheels. The Electric motor/ s most definitely are freeway speed capable unless 80mph is now not fast enough for freeway use. Even my 2016 Ford does this. We use it for local trips and commuting...

New All Terrain Tire from Nokian, Outpost AT

Not cheap but really impressed with my BFG Trail Terrains new tire as of September 2021. They are a hybrid AT so more Highway performance with better AT durability and 3peak snow performance which has been really good so far.

    Towing a 16ft Airstream with a 4runner? Other alternatives?

My Sequoia was only a couple inches longer than my J80. My Expedition was pretty much identical to the Sequoia in length. The trucks are definitely longer. There are cases where longer can be an issue. Pull in length at campgrounds. Skiing parking lot this last week the truck guys were all...

    F150 - 2.7L vs 3.5L vs 5.0L

The modern start stop uses ignition technology no starter its really not that big of a deal you learn to adjust your brake pressure to restart before the green light. In my area idle time definitely hits your average mileage hard. Basically the lowest hanging fruit to improve mileage. Took some...

    F150 - 2.7L vs 3.5L vs 5.0L

Oil consumption definitely can be oil quality also. The oils and oil standards changed in the US in the early 2000’s. For example Mobile 1 was the Euro standard for the High performance stuff in the US then the US spec stuff switched to a low quality higher volatility base and all the...

    Ford’s new 6.8L V8

Ford, Dodge, GM have all been shifting their “branding” packages to Named trims for the “life style” truck trend. Nothing new they did it back in the 70’s too. Ie Camper special, Tradesman etc. Today the Tremor is a life style branding and packaging. My contractor buddy didn’t buy Tremors for...
