Hey Vortec Guys! / Sierra pickup / Suburban / Yukon etc - Finally has Index!

SPARK PLUG QUESTION Hey Guys - I've developed a low rpm stumble, so I'm going to change my plugs. I changed out my originals at 125K, now at 173K. If memory serves I put E3s in it and at the same time installed MSD wires. I'm going to put AC Delco plugs back in this time - recommended is 41-962...

    My 02 Avalanche NFE

Hi Gang - the next round of mods is underway - focusing on the front end, tire size, ground clearance, gearing. For the front end: I just ordered a set of Rare Parts 1.5" tie rods and Cognito Upper Control Arms. The tie rods will provide much needed strength while the Cognito UCAs provide...

    My 02 Avalanche NFE

The next mod that was recently completed was a fabbed dual swing out. Sourced 1000# pivots, latches, and spare tire kit from EMS Offroad and the Rotopax support from All Pro Offroad. My buddy took all of my input and went to work on it. Also moved my Hi Lift mount from my roof rack to the swing...

2001 Chevy Suburban 1500 Blue 4x4 Build - Arizona Native

Hi and Welcome. Check my My 02 Avalanche NFE thread - as our platforms are very similar and I've done a lot of what is on your list. For shocks - check out Eibach Springs - the Pro Truck Sport shocks might be exactly what you are looking for. Those shocks were designed using my Avalanche as the...

    My 02 Avalanche NFE

Once the snorkel was done, it was time to turn some attention back to the front bumper. When we fabbed it, we used 1.5" tubing and it just looked too thin for the rig and I wasn't completely sold on the look of the wrap-around on the sides. Huge fan of the general design though. So, we cut the...

    My 02 Avalanche NFE

Just realized I haven't updated this thread in awhile. Sorry for the repeat, ut I'm adding the snorkel mod info into this thread so it's all in one place (I don't know how to collapse and consolidate threads on here). Safari Snorkel (SS81HF) mated to a fully enclosed S&B airbox that is...

    GMT900 ( 07-13 Tahoe/Suburban )?

Hey Rayra - on your 4L60E - I FINALLY (after going through 3 of them) found a shop/owner in Bloomington who actually has a handle on the issues with these transmissions. Had him get rid of mine (I didn't want a single piece from it or even the case) and put in a completely built up one with...

Hey Vortec Guys! / Sierra pickup / Suburban / Yukon etc - Finally has Index!

Rayra - I also put the AC Delco stop leak in my 02 Av after reading this. I've only put about 150 miles on it though. Planning on checking the fluid this week, and am also changing the pan gasket and oil pump o-ring this week. Hopefully, my leak is solved as well.

    School me on toilets

I've ordered a Trasharoo that will strap around the spare tire. My plan is: She can use the Luggable Loo, seal the bag(s), place in Trasharoo until we get to somewhere that has a trash can and dump it.

    School me on toilets

Perfect timing on this thread and great info - THANKS!!!! We are new to overlanding, but not camping. Our normal camping routine is to setup a base camp in a campground - with a toilet - and venture out for the day then return. However, I've been modding the rig and adding gear to allow us to do...

    Bumper help

Get the winch. As mentioned, you won't need it until you NEED it. I'm not a fan of the big sheet metal bumpers, so I did mine in tube (Pre-runner style), but it is 1.75" tubing all welded into my frame with a 12K winch tucked inside. A large animal would have a very bad time with that but I...

Custom Rear bumper, which is better one swing or two swings to carry tire and fuel

Here is my dual swing out that we made. 1.75" tube and 1000# spindles.

Preventing a deep dish of gumbo.... Neverwet on my new wheels

Pam on the drag car, WD-40 on the MX bike way back when. I would opt for WD-40 for the mud.

2001 Suburban suspension suggestions or links?

For suspension - go to Eibach Springs. Check out their Pro Truck Sport shocks. My 2002 Avalanche was the project truck for these shocks and they are seriously good and reasonably priced. Thick shafts, high and low speed valving, ride great on the road, perform great offroad. My buddy is the R&D...

Another vote for the Valvoline. Been using the Max Life since it hit 75K (it's now at 172K).

Hey Vortec Guys! / Sierra pickup / Suburban / Yukon etc - Finally has Index!

This thread is great - I just bought some of the AC Delco sealant off of eBay for $5. Amazon wanted $5 +$5 shipping, Jegs wanted $5 +$8 handling, and my local GM dealer didn't have any.

Newb Question Defender 110 vs Chevy Z71

Well - having a 2014 you certainly have more suspension options than I do on my 02. What gears are in it? Mine came with 4.10s and the Eaton locker so I'm good on gearing unless I want to go to a 37" tire (but then that would open a WHOLE new can of worms). 35s are where I'm headed (I have 33s...

Hey Vortec Guys! / Sierra pickup / Suburban / Yukon etc - Finally has Index!

Interesting, I hadn't heard of this issue before. My 02 Avalanche does suffer some minor coolant loss, but no leaks, nothing out of the tail pipe, nothing in the oil. Now I wonder if I have these heads and this issue................would GM have to honor a head replacement for a defect on a 14...
