We have very serious burn restrictions almost year round here in the desert southwest...
that is why I have a Fire Dancer portable propane fire pit. I can use it anywhere regardless of burn issues and while it is only enough for the family it is perfect for that.
Also we can have a quick morning...
My EB was a must as it was setup for wheelchair users and still needed room for the couch/bed and all that.
If I was doing it again just for me & the family I would still go EB as there are 3-4 of us on a trip and that extra space makes a difference. Then again I am not a hard core wheeler who...
Great looking rig there and I actually like the carpet look...even if I will go with rubber flooring :)
If you find you want more heat blocking you can add the alum. bubble wrap stuff from Home Depot and it will make a difference.
The seats look great and I can't wait to see what the storage...
Toyota makes the Hi-Ace van which comes in a true 4x4.
Just buy it outside the USA and keep it registered outside the USA, they take it on a trip outside the USA once a year to re-import it :)
Or buy a used Syncro :)
Great write up and pics...
This is why I go back and look for trip reports I missed as this is an area I want to explore more and this trip report helps inspire me (well as soon as the crazy heat goes away).
I like it better when people write about actually traveling vs building.
I am pretty sure the Wescotts are going on another grand adventure soon and that will be what I look forward to reading about.
Many folks build rigs, fewer ever actually do anything with those vehicles.
Normally I just toss the grey water into the desert but I like the idea of saving it for the campfire or such at the end of the night. But that is as long as I would save it.
This is YOUR trip and you should have what ever kind of adventure you want.
Don't worry if you measure up to the mega media trips or the hard core wheelers or anyone else.
Have the best trip YOU can have so you have the best memories you can have.
I did the Continental Divide route from Canada...
bummer West but I think I will have to pass on the tank...
I have a smaller tank from a VW Van that I was hoping this was a larger version of but I don't think it will fit under my burb and the removal to fill part would be a pain.
Thanks for the pics as I am sure it will help someone.
Hey West I am very interested in this to mount under my 1970 Suburban...
can you take a pic and some measurements?
How it mounts and can it be filled anywhere or only certain locations (like auto oriented shops)
So do you move a part of the sleep pad out of the way to get in & out of the top?
If someone is sleeping how hard is it for the other person to get in & out? You know like when the wife needs to take a potty break in the middle of the night?
And of course....how much?
Looks great and I really...
great idea and just so you know I did the same thing in my Troopie.
Everyone talks about how important a good nights sleep is so why not make your rig more comfortable?
