I see that you have spent considerable time in Africa in your Jeep. That must have been a fantastic journey. On our trip there we drove the 79 Series outfitted with all the appropriate gear and non of us got stuck or had any issues that were truck related. You know that virtually every "car"...
With full size pickups seemingly getting larger and larger each year the mid size truck category has a lot of appeal to more and more folk. If you don't need the capabilities of half ton and larger trucks, and face it most truck buyers don't, then these mid size trucks will fit the bill nicely...
Well the wait is almost over. The debut of this truck will be on the 28th.
My personal opinion after reading just about everything I can get my hands on is that this will be the most capable overlanding pick up truck that you can get in the US. I would compare it to a 79 Series Land Cruiser.
No...
I would humbly suggest that you get a better handle on the weights by first actually weighing your truck. You might find it weighs more than you think. Then as mentioned running as close to stock as you can first and based on your experiences add things ..
The 79 Series will probably be the closest competitor to the Gladiator. Pick ups like the Taco, Colorado and new Ranger will be a distant second in the US market.
You already can.
Just buy a 79 Land Cruiser and drive it in Africa or some other place that's legal...
You'll have to get this Jeep if you want similar capability.
Time to clean out my garage.
I have a pair of Thule racks with 8" risers to mount on trucks with gutters. Comes with locks. $150
I have another pair of racks to fit on top of your pick up bed. Comes with all hardware. 700 pound dynamic load so it can easily handle your RTT. $150
I have several...
You might want to consider listing it on www.wanderthewest.com
There's a lot of FWC people and want to be Owners on there even a few from the East Coast.
^^^^
That's just pure BS.
It wasn't too long ago that the Ford Exec's were saying that the Ranger would never be coming back to the US and you should just buy a F-150 and be happy.
Now we know the Ranger is coming and there have been several sittings of LHD RR's testing in the US.
Since Fomoco...
Thinking of dipping my toes in the HAM pond.
I have a truck camper also and was wondering if mounting an antenna in the center of the truck's hood would be a good option. My camper covers the cab of the truck..
You might want to see if you can find a spray foam insulation contractor in your area and see if he can spray about 1/2 - 1" of closed cell foam. You'll have to tape off the areas you don't want affected as the stuff will stick to everything and is very difficult to remove.
It is also flammable...
We were in Botswana the same time you were on your trip and we rented our "cars" from Bushlore as well. I couldn't believe how well outfitted they were!
We are hoping to go to Namibia next year! It is a truly magnificent continent.
Darn! Just saw this offer...oh well.
For those guys interested in the mxt275 why don't you go for the mxt400?
Is just that all the controls are in the mike and you can remote mount the rest?
