Yup, the 'LMM' (2007-2009 in C4500/5500s) was 'given' EGR and DPF (post-injection), bummer.

LET ME SEE YOUR IMPORTED DOUBLE CAB MB OR IVECO VEHICLE CONVERSION

While I certain think it is do-able for 2 adults and 7 'kids' as I've pointed out Over Here, I will point out the '9- firefighters' are in there for 10 to 15 minutes en route to the accident/fire/etc, not for 8-10 hours traveling across the Mojave Desert.

    1120 AF Build in Norway

I've opened the doors (front) on my 1979 1017AF dreifachkabine when the cab has been tilted (not to 'assist' in raising as I had a ram) for maintenance and they did not 'rip off'. Of course, I opened them 'under control' supporting them down to the stops. IF I was doing that routinely I would...

LET ME SEE YOUR IMPORTED DOUBLE CAB MB OR IVECO VEHICLE CONVERSION

Just a heads up that Mercedes is well supported for parts (recommended - Terry Lee Enterprises) and service (again Terry Lee), in the USA, while Iveco is not to my knowledge (perhaps someone can post a source). My German friend who is a retired M.A.N. engineer bought a Mercedes over a M.A.N, due...

    MERCEDES 1222

No problem for 7 kids. My truck was set-up for 9 total German Fireman (2 in front, 7 in back) with 4 of those in the back being able to wear SCBA tanks so 7 kids would be a walk in the park. I would have 4 forward-facing seats on the back wall with 3 aft-facing seats on the center hump...

    1120 AF Build in Norway

Perhaps you have already tried this, but on the Fusos which are 'unassisted' cab tilting, if you open the doors it shifts the CG forward and makes lifting the cab easier. UPDATE AND DISCLAIMER - I would not attempt this, even as a trial to see if it helps, if you feel the build quality of your...

    MERCEDES 1222

Have owned the same cab on my MB1017, there are a lot of possibilities for an 8'x10.5' cabin. My cabin (on the flatbed) is/was 12 foot with a dinette that seats 4-6, so with fold down seats in the cab (I had Volvo XC-90 seats), you can travel with kids or another couple, enjoy the outdoors...

    Lowly the Lorry. . .

On the 22.5 size. I certainly think that 20" rims are better for 'off-roading' as the rim lip design facilitates airing down to much lower pressures. Also, the XZLs are the benchmark for large high GVWR tires, but there are some defined pluses to the 22.5 size. Certain a standard size in the US...
