    MPPT 75/10 replacement options

You might be cooking your Victron under the hood. I ended up putting mine in the passenger footwell in an attempt to find a slightly cooler living space for it. So far it has worked well, but I haven’t really checked on it often.

    MPPT 75/10 replacement options

I’m pretty happy with my Victron 75/15 MPPT, but I thought that it wouldn’t charge a 12V battery without at least 2 panels in series to get over the starting voltage. What is your panel voltage?

Total Electronic Failure - deemed "totaled" 2011 LR4

Personally, I would tear it down myself and try to figure out what was going on. However, if you’re an apartment dweller, or it’s your primary car, or there is a spouse involved who will never be happy if the car can’t be 100% trusted … probably shouldn’t have bought a Rover… but I digress...

Simple question regarding dual battery set-up, diagram: 2016 4Runner

Agreed with the above. You are far better off to replace the starter battery with a lager unit. Less complexity and lower cost for sure. My Group 27 dropped into the Jeeps tray with relatively little modification and cost about $120. With 2 solar panels, it rarely even draws down into...

    OverlandHardware.com is for sale!

Let’s not be too hasty here. If that is a possibility it feels like we should see how it plays out…. ?

    Old man-big brakes

That is pretty cool. Thank you. Did you do the rears too?

    Look at this ?

This is probably due to all the new electronics in modern Rovers! ?

    Old man-big brakes

Can you verify that with part numbers and / or photos? I’ve been trying to figure that out and haven’t found any confirmed sources saying “yes”.

New to van life- Questions on Red Cross ERV

Cool. As long as you know what you’re getting into, have fun. There are lots of threads about traveling with Kids in the “Family” section. I would say the main thing from my point of view is to make it okay to only make short mileages. Don’t pass up interesting stuff because you aren’t...

New to van life- Questions on Red Cross ERV

Are you planning to have 3 kids ride for a month in the back of an ambulance with no way to see out? What is the longest trip you’ve done with your kids? I think you might be better off with a plain old van or crew cab truck and a 4 person ground tent. Any way I imagine making a family live...

    Old man-big brakes

I would start at Quadratec or 4 wheel pets websites. Mopar online warehouses will still have the kits too. Decent trailer brakes will go a long way for a lot less dough though.

    Grilling fail

That egg carton thing is a cool trick. I’ve usually fell back to the logic of “you should rotate out your road flares to keep them fresh”… There are very few fires that can’t be lit with a 15 minute flare! Of course, we should probably admit that anyone with charcoal, egg cartons, lighter...

LED strip lights flickering when switch is off

I spent the better part of 6 months and $400 learning the hard way about electronic controls for my “automatic” garage lights with all sorts of current leakage learning events. The concepts aren’t exactly scaleable… but they are close. You could also just add a mechanical switch inline with...

LED strip lights flickering when switch is off

LED strips can be so sensitive that they pick up all sorts of stray current and induced currents. In addition, many dimmers don’t really “switch” off. To Verkstad’s point above, the dimmer may or may not include a true mechanical switch inside, and that brief reverse current can transfer. If...

LED strip lights flickering when switch is off

Is there a common ground wire or a shared path for the power wires? I.E. are they tied together with zip ties or anything?

Anyone ditched a Max Coupler in favor of a pintle?

I ended up with a pintle. It can rotate around the long axis same as the max coupler it replaced. I haven’t actually towed with it yet, maybe this weekend. Gas is too spendy to just be randomly towing stuff for fun right now.

Looking for battery box rust removal suggestions

I’ve had good luck, and fun, using a battery charger and washing soda to do electrolytic rust removal. It’s all over YouTube. But sand blasting is far faster, easier, and better.

What to do with-New U.S. Army Tent

Sometimes when I grab free stuff or something that I just “can’t pass up”… it turns out to be more work than it’s worth. As far as frame goes, I’m pretty sure that Tractor Supply stocks all the galvanized pipe and frame fitting bits for tarp-type pavilions and they could be adapted?

Propane stove piping - corrosion on the outside of the pipes

Hard to say without knowing the specific metals in each part, but that looks suspiciously like galvanic corrosion brought on by soldering or brazing dissimilar metals. Thinking further in left field, it could also be the result of an incompatible flux or solder used in the joining process. I...

Need help M416 aftermarket wheel size

You should be able to get basic steel trailer wheels n many sizes from places like e-trailer. They can take whatever tires you want. You don’t have to use NDT tires, and they will have centers large enough to clear trailer hubs.
