Well, progress got delayed by the good ol' USPS. I couldn't find the VHB tape primer I needed (Primer 111) locally so I tried the one vendor on Amazon who had it. It said a week to receive it. Fine. Well, within five days it made it to LA, an hour or so away. Next tracking update three days...
I just went through this process as I'm adding insulation panels to composite walls and need new inner walls to cover it. After trying to make FRP work, I went with 1/8" luan plywood. Very light weight stuff. painted or properly sealed plywood is pretty darn moisture resistant.
Ah, I didn't know about the primer. Thanks, I'll look into that. Yeah, I got the 5952 due to the better heat resistance, hope it's a good choice. So I'll be able to use a roller on one bond or the other but then I just have to stick the panels up there (painted plywood). Which bonding surface...
I've been pretty busy getting all the stuff that I removed in order to spray, back on. Lots of cleaning off old sealants of different types and then re-sealing and re-mounting. It was nice to check for water damage on the plywood skins in lots of different places. Part of the impetus for this...
Wow, super impressive sewing! I'm getting myself psyched up for sewing a third version of my pop-up and you're setting the bar high for the home sewing machine club. Sorry if I missed it, but what fabric did you go with?
FWIW on the mattress, I used 2" of medium density foam and then 2" of the perforated latex foam. Very happy with that combo for sleeping. It's a bit soft for seat cushions, but works fine.
Thanks! I used 55psi and 7 bottles (1-3/4 gallons). Shooting the whole bottom would take another bottle.
I experimented a bit with spraying and texture but not much. I think shooting with the gun at maybe 18 inches from the surface at that psi and doing it in three pretty light coats would give...
Well the Raptor Liner finally happened today.
As everyone always says, it's lots of hours of prep. Lots. Here's about how things looked prior to spraying.
The last thing I masked was the door opening. I covered stuff inside in case my masking of the slide-up gap wasn't perfect (which was a...
Don't know who makes the FWC outside shower, but I ordered the whole bullfinch shower assembly off of e-bay last year (from the UK). You might have to buy a whole new kit as opposed to parts, but might be worth looking.
I tried the stick-on velcro and it didn't last for me either. I'm in the process of re-doing my fabric on my pop-up due to this. For the new one, I went with something called Sur Last. Another marine-type canvas, waterproof and UV stable. I only have a sample pack in hand so I haven't...
Rolled on my first batch of Raptor Liner. Based on that experience, I think I'm going to move a bunch of crap around and turn my garage into a spray booth as suggested. What have I gotten myself into this time? ?
It's not a lack of equipment problem, it's a space problem. Turning my garage into a spray booth is I suppose doable, but just not appealing. I've only got a foot or so of clearance on one side of the camper so I don't think I could get far enough away to spray properly.
Yeah, so the panel in the photos is 410mm X 960mm X 15mm and is just under 4 lbs. It has an effective R-value of 19. Three or four inches of XPS would get the same insulation and be lighter, but would make your rig several inches wider on the outside or narrower on the inside. Interesting...
Okay, progress is being made. First step was to get all the old slide-up seal material out of the gap. No small amount of "stuff" in there.
It was interesting to test the strength of the VHB tape I used to hold those brush seals in. I was super impressed, those things were on there good. Using...
Had to look up the magnetic flange seal. No wonder my freezer stays closed so well! Who knew. That would be slick but it looks like it requires a fair amount of metal (Al extrusion to hold seal and something ferrous to stick to?) I'd like to get all the metal out of that gap if I can...
Yeah, you're right Java. The gap is the biggest problem right now.
My simplest design is to have a downward facing wedge-shaped strip of some soft foam around the top of the camper edge and an upward facing wedge of the same stuff around the lower edge of the slide-up. When the slide up comes...
I like the bedliner idea! Something that stays a little flexible seems appealing. I'll have to see if they make a non non-slip version for better tape adhesion. I was thinking the same thing on the foamy tape (y)
