Looks like they are shiny and metallic.
What about this:
1. "paint" one side of the VIP with polyurea or epoxy (maybe both sides is a better idea - encase the whole thing?)
2. use VHB on the painted side to attach to the inner camper wall (which is honeycomb core composite and quite stiff)
3...
I'm not going to do wet layup, too much work to sand and finish and would require deconstruction of the camper requiring extra garage space that I don't have. I can see why that is a safe way to go though. Do you see an issue with covering them with FRP panel or plywood? I was thinking of...
Well, haven't updated this thread in a while because there hasn't been much to report. Few minor trips here and there but I've mostly been busy with work and distracted by life. Anyway, a trip last week up the the east side of the Sierra's has prompted me into project action. It all started...
Answer to the 2 vs. 4 question depends I think. Four is a lot of force if your roof is really light weight. Closing it might require a good bit of yanking. Another thing to consider is that each lifter gives good lateral stability for the roof in only the direction of the long axis of the lifter...
Have you looked at Breha pop top/roof lifters? I used them in combination with electronic actuators on a hard-side pop-up. They are used on soft-side pop-ups too I know.
When I finished the initial build, I estimated the dry weight of the camper to be 850lbs. Since then I've added a 200w solar panel, roof vent, doubled the battery, etc. That all adds up so I'm over 900lbs now for sure. Add 200 lbs for a full water tank. Those sliders are like 140lbs. Two people...
Thanks.
When the pop top is down, it's just a bulb seal. Hard to get a good shot, but it's attached to aluminum c-channel around the edges of the roof.
The "gutter" is what the fabric attaches to at the bottom. Here's a link to the seal I used...
Thanks! Good to know on the tracks. The fittings I used say they are rated to 5,000 lbs - not sure I believe it, but that's what they say. I'll be keeping an eye on the whole setup, I'm paranoid that way!
Did a little project over the weekend. Haven't seen this done so thought I'd post up.
To date, I've attached the camper to the truck with bolts through the floor into the trucks c-channels and turnbuckles to the rear bumper. The camper has never shifted around, but I can see it kind of bouncing...
Well, looks like others are having even bigger problems with these coilovers:
https://www.thenewx.org/threads/review-prg-aluminum-frontier-xterra-coilovers-as-a-package.279671/
Long story short, it seems there is nothing on the upper spring perch to keep the spring centered. As a result, the...
For all those dismissing California as a liberal bastion, I beg to differ. In 2020 we voted against labor unions, with big business, rejected tax hikes on businesses, and voted against affirmative action and rent control. We're a blue state, but not super liberal as a whole. We do however have...
Beautiful sewing! Man, that's not easy to do (at least for me!).
Question - is the pop-up wall two layers thick? Looks like it's green on the outside and white on the inside? If so, I really like that. I went white on my latest edition of my popup to keep the inside bright, but at night it...
Haha, we kind of had the same deal with the porta potty.
And in terms of an update, we did empty out the solids bin for the first time a little while back. It was drama free for the most part. It was windy and the peat/coir wanted to blow around in my face as I dumped it into a plastic bag. I...
Stove is by SMEV. I got it from Panther RV Products. Very happy with it. The bigger burner cranks and the little one goes down nice and low for simmering. Having the extra counter space while not in use is a big plus in a small kitchen.
You're welcome! Glad you found it useful.
Thanks. The pee bottle sits in a piece that screws into the front of the solids bin. So yes, you could separate the two to make the solids bin come out on its own.
All good points on the coilovers. One side has a regular nut and a nylock. If I can make that fit on the other side (currently two regular nuts), I guess I'll go with that.
And yeah, I liked the idea of supporting a small business that takes the time to develop stuff for our trucks so I ignored...
I went through a pretty hectic scramble prior to the above trip to get a few key things done. Priority one was upgrading the potty. The Thetford Curve that we were using never really impressed. Mainly because cleaning it out with #2's in there was a pretty awful experience. Maybe it's because I...
As others have said, avoid electric actuators if you need them to be in sync with each other. I'm using them somewhat successfully in combination with these:
My build thread (see sig) has the details. Basically though, I have these on the front and back of the camper. The electronic actuators...
