    Jacks for expedition vehicles

Grizzlyj, you might want to look into the safe jack base plate. Seems a fair bit sturdier and potentially lighter (or similar) to your solution.

    Bridger Teton Bear Attack

Also, in regards to the need for a trigger cover for a Glock, I'm a big fan of the MIC holster. one of the simplest and easiest things going. If you carry in a pouch, you can anchor the string and just pull the cover off as you remove the pistol. Easy Peasy.

    Bridger Teton Bear Attack

I should probably post this on the "backpack thread" also, but one of the benefits to my Outdoorsmans Pack is that the hip belt has a nice spot for a holster. Since a lot of my hunting involves putting on and taking off my pack several times a day, I use G-Code holsters that allow you to have...

    Bridger Teton Bear Attack

Not being able to fire and not being able to fire safely are dramatically different scenarios indeed. Bummer.

This is likely the direction we will go.

    Need new Backpack

I’m wondering if we are still talking about hiking or hunting. Because (many of) the reasons for an external frame pack still hold true in the latter. For example, the deer I posted a picture of resulted in a ~140 pound pack which even my largest Gregory expedition pack would have had...

In regards to an internal frame pack I presume you mean?

    Expedition Vehicle selection thoughts?

Sigh. Yeah, of course! Any decent lake or stream will do. Unless you don't have that, then it won't do. Good grief.

    Need new Backpack

I am seeing HPG come up more and more with people I trust to know the difference between good stuff and crap. I wish they made their wind cheater in tall. Let's not forget that when it comes to "true" pack trips and hauling meat/gear to and fro on a mountain there is little equal to a...

    Need new Backpack

Well, if you're asking for ideas minus the personal experience then I hear tell that Stone Glacier has some fine packs. I've seen the craftsmanship in their tents. They are (obviously) very focused on the the ultra-lightweight, back county hunter market. Which was me about 20 years ago. I...

    Need new Backpack

I am a big fan of the Outdoorsmans pack system. I like that you can actually buy multiple bags to attach to one frame with the same hip and shoulder belt. Both the long range hunter and the optics hunter packs have room for spotters, tripods, etc. I have a friend that swears by his KUIU pack...

GXV Patagonia on the Kenworth K370 chassis

Fantastic Greg. Thank you for the thoughtful response. Its great to get the perspective of full timers since your needs are different from part-timers or even "recreation users". We struggled with the Hydronic vs Dual Top decision as well and saw the tradeoffs between complexity, storage...

What makes a Unicat worth more than a Earth Roamer?

A perfect example of the vagaries of personal choice is the fact that I have no interest in the armorvision or KCW windows or whatever they’re called. They’re limited in size, ungodly expensive and extremely heavy. I know they are nice, but they simply aren’t “that” nice in my opinion. But...

Exploring the wilds of the Owyhee Canyonlands - The most remote region of Oregon

We were in the wilderness this weekend. It still chaps my ****** that I have to walk into "wilderness" while the cattle ranchers can ride their ATV anywhere he pleases to check his cows. For that matter, the idea that wilderness can co-exist with domestic cattle is such a ridiculous notion that it...
