Exploring the wilds of the Owyhee Canyonlands - The most remote region of Oregon

We have decided that our first "shakedown" when we get the new vehicle is going to be a circumnavigation of the Owyhee Highlands. Start in Grand View, ID - go up Mud Flat and over the top tp the OR border and then come back over Bachmann Grade back to Grand View. Can't wait.

MAXTRAX MKII - The Ultimate Traction & Recovery Device

Maxtrax, I see the pic of the "mini" version above. Do you have any plans for building a "maxi" version? I thought I saw something a couple years ago about a mock-up of a slightly larger version. I am intimately familiar with the MKII for use with our pickups and the SMB van. But I'm...

For those that carry Guns and Overlanding

I have been extremely and pleasantly surprised that they are incredibly secure. I'm gotten pretty rowdy in my pickup riding across cut corn fields and the like and the handgun has never moved an inch.

For those that carry Guns and Overlanding

As a way to get this back on track around the topic of overlanding and firearms, I will note that I have really gotten to like using magnetic "holsters" in my farm, overland and daily driver vehicles. If you haven't tried them, they are really slick and handguns (and long guns) stick to them...

For those that carry Guns and Overlanding

Its funny watching people fight over feelings. There is absolutely no need to convince people that they should think the way you do. Freedom means that people can think whatever they want and trying to coerce people to think the way you do serves no ones purposes - except maybe the ever...

Stuck Expedition Truck - how to recover - discussion

The OP also asked: 2. What tools/upgrades would you take to avoid or help with recovery? I'm not 100% sure what happened from these photos, but it would appear that a dash-mounted inclinometer/tilt gauge might have prevented the predicament in the first place?

For those that carry Guns and Overlanding

I’m not sure the term “comfortable” and Brown Bear are made for each other - but for my money I’ll take a slug gun over most other options. I can shoot it accurately from the hip or shoulder and it’s a tool I’m intimately familiar with. Which, in the end, is probably the most important...

ZLok - The zip tie with attitude

^^^^ That was my thought as well. And honestly, that's all you need in most cases since a determined thief is gonna go through most any locking mechanism pretty much like butter anyway.

    Safe Jack- Review

I’m wondering if this would be a good candidate for a full size expedition vehicle - such as a GXV, ER or Unicat? I see they have a (edit) 20 ton model that uses the same kind of extensions and baseplate for flexibility that the video demonstrates. Anyone have thoughts/experience with that?

ZLok - The zip tie with attitude

I figured this was the best forum to post this in since I can't be the only person who has searched endlessly for ways to secure various bits and baubles on my ride. This ZLok thing is a lockable, steel core zip-tie that seems absolutely perfect for securing small items such as a bike...

    Steiner Commander Binocs

I wouldn't necessarily consider Steiner as "top of the line" but they are certainly pretty good glass all things considered. For reference, the "Top of the Line" is still occupied by three main Brands (for good reason): Leica, Zeiss and Swarovski.* I'm not sure if they would go for it...

How long before we see a Earthromer for $150K?

No kidding. I owned an SMB for 12 years that was a POS and required constant care and feeding and even then I don't think I had a grand of hours in it. If it truly took someone a thousand hours of time to get systems "dialed in" on a vehicle like that then we should have them take the...

The airgun thread - lets see where this goes.

Pound for pound, its quite possible that my AirForce Talon in .177 has taken more game than any other rifle I own. Kodiak Match ammo. I don't have time for anything that can't hold a quarter minute of accuracy and it does it all day long. I like the look of that FX gun and anyone willing to...

Exploring the wilds of the Owyhee Canyonlands - The most remote region of Oregon

There is (still) a significant contingent that would prefer the entire area be made wilderness and close off much of the awesome trails and roads to visitors. If you enjoy it in its current - extremely beautiful -and well managed condition and don't want to see it closed off to all traffic...
