Good point, thanks for sharing. I have thought about various 'bullet proofing' things I could do. Extra cooling is always a good idea. Oil coolers, diff coolers, more efficient radiator, electric fans, etc. are things I've worked with on my cars.

Thanks Geo.Lander, I have been talking with Terra Exp. They told me (and VerMonsterRV said it also) that the OM366LA was indeed used in marine applications at 300HP. They said it was just a fuel pressure adjustment(?) I've got a long way to go before I get to that, but if the factory is...

Just got the word today, Martin Krauss from Terra-Exp will be in Germany Oct. 18th. He'll go to the truck and send me fresh pic's/vid/confirmations on the front locker question. So I have about 4 weeks to sober up and realize this is a horrible idea... I still have a unfinished '76 911 in my...

Jon, Thanks so much for the info!!! I really appreciate it. I'll run the vin and see what comes up. And guess what just showed up today?

To be honest, I started down that path. But I want to know every inch of of it, and the best way to do that is get my hands dirty. I'm the first to admit I know squat about heavy Mercedes trucks, but I've spent decades wrenching on various cars. Crawling around an engine, learning it's...

Where this is at right now is I'll have someone there in mid-October to take pic's/vid's for me and confirm the mechanicals/condition. If it's a go, then it would get to the US the end of October. Which means a lot is not going to happen over the winter to it.

This is the one. Yes, it's the cost/amount of work that is daunting. Never taken on a project this big. I will be farming a lot of work out, I can't work on it full time.

OK, thanks, I thought that might be the case since it had 10 bolt pattern rather than 8. But I'm trying not to presume too much about a truck built/fitted to European spec's.

OK, I can get around the CTIS, I will run air taps by each wheel or have a long air hose. Back to an earlier question, did you guys do lift blocks or just bolted on the 22.5" wheels? Any clearance issues?

Ok, got it on the wheels! I've never had an exhaust brake, another thing for me to research!

Thanks, I'm just use to bigger numbers  I've read about these trucks slowing to 28mph on a long hill, and that would drive me insane. Does NOS work on diesels? :ROFLMAO:

Ok, looks like the the max torque is 740-750nm which is 545ftlbs, which is better. I'm getting different numbers from different sites. It doesn't help MB had so many versions of these engines.

Just got the purchase agreement, engine is a OM366LA. There's a question if it has the front locker or not. Anyone know what code 731.603 means? I have the VIN number, the Vin number site I tried didn't work. Any suggestions? OM366LA has 240hp/428ftlbs. The torque value seems very low too...

Looked at that one. Manual trans, I've decided an automatic would be best for me.

Thanks for the info/Links! I'm short on hard specs right now, thought by '95 they had moved to the 400 series of engines? I will have eyes on it in October. I was sent the VIN number, and some other info, but it's in German, so working through that. This is the one of the pic's I was sent...

So, I shouldn't go with twin variable vane turbos with meth injection? Your just sucking the fun right out of this...;) On the CTIS, I did see some systems that were obviously overly exposed to damage, but thought surly there's a system that works, but perhaps not, that's why I'm asking! thanks.
