    Pro-Rig V2.0 - Home Built Compact Composite Pop-up

Yep. Place called CarbonCore. They have a bunch of different options - foam and honeycomb cores and plywood and FRP skins to choose from. Bunch of different thicknesses. Prices are good but the quality might not be. Read through Gunner207's thread in this forum that I linked to earlier - lots of...

    Pro-Rig V2.0 - Home Built Compact Composite Pop-up

Thanks! Yeah, but "fab work" might be a strong term. Just cutting with a miter saw and gluing it in:p. No welding. That aluminum is from a place called "Online Metals". They have a great selection and prices are good. Shipping isn't cheap though. Mostly on the outside I used 2" X 2" X 1/8" in...

    Pro-Rig V2.0 - Home Built Compact Composite Pop-up

First piece of kit to get installed is the heater. We went with the Propex HS2000. Expensive little bugger. Doesn't take up too much space though and it's light and doesn't draw much current when running. Saving space and weight was a constant theme in choosing what stuff to use on the...

    Pro-Rig V2.0 - Home Built Compact Composite Pop-up

Thanks all! Been watching your build ski_bike_camp - super cool. I toyed with the ideal of making my own panels like you're doing. Ultimately I took a chance on these panels from CarbonCore. They are working fine for me but I wouldn't recommend them. Long story short, they skimp on the...

    Pro-Rig V2.0 - Home Built Compact Composite Pop-up

Well, I'm about six months in to this build and progress has been slow but steady. Here's how it looks as of about a week ago: It's (obviously) a slide in. It will be a double pop-up - the structure on the foreground in the photos is the hard-sided part of the pop-up (upside down). It will...

Cool! The test piece I made seemed pretty tough but it's great to have a comparison to the other materials. Loving this discussion guys! I went through a lot of these options in my head a year or so ago and I couldn't find much info from others - other than some nice builds with name brand...

rruff, if you have the inclination and the supplies handy, I'd be curious to see how a luan panel with a single layer of fiberglass (6 oz cloth say) would fair against the full fiberglass panel in screwdriver test. Nice progress Gunner - dang that was quick work!

Congratulations on getting the build started! This should be good... FWIW, I used simple butt joints in my construction. I used thickened epoxy adhesive compound to slightly overfill the "end grain" (= exposed core material) and then clamped that to the plywood part of the other panel - this...

No idea on the adhesive. You're right about the wood. I had forgotten until you mentioned this that I ordered the luan but got a call from Carbon Core saying that they recently changed do a different type of plywood and would that be okay. Don't remember what he called it but I'm sure if they...

Here's an example of the less-than-perfect adhesion: The core and upper piece of plywood came out and you can see the inner side of the ply from the opposite side still there - no sign of glue. Same thing happened a couple inches away. Six inches away it was fine. Good to hear this isn't...

Excited to watch your progress on this! Very cool design. I'm several months in to a build using the same luan/honeycomb panels from CarbonCore (20mm core = one inch thick total in my case). I somehow got the $120 commercial delivery rate to my house in CA for 16 panels - even the FedEx guy did...

Heated Floor Mats - Anyone Tried One?

Thanks for the breakdown Mike - that's a great way to think about how much battery one really has! Amps are funny little things. The Puekert Effect is new to me - good one to know though. Great point Zippie - even if the amperage calculations left any room for argument, that kind of seals the...

Heated Floor Mats - Anyone Tried One?

I've been looking for a low-cost option for heating my little camper. I've been looking at the various propane options but due to my confined space, I'd be forever worried about knocking something over and burning down my rig. Since my camper is soft-sided and wont hold much heat anyway, I...

New Member - Unique(?) Expedition Rig

Despite the hectic holidays, we got Pro-Rig out for a quick trip between X-mas and New Years. We did some more exploring in Death Valley, enjoying some unseasonably warm weather. Several "firsts" for the trip: first time with three people, first test of our new sink, first test of some new...

Whew, back from the holidays (and some travels!!). Glad our work is inspiring! Thanks for the feedback. Clamps came from a place called Reid Supply Company (via Amazon). Lots of cool stuff there.

Thanks for all the encouraging comments:sombrero: So, I’ve been working on some improvements. Thought I’d share and show some more of the inner workings of Pro-Rig. Travel mode, for lack of a better term, has been the biggest challenge. Keeping the cap from shifting and keeping dust out are...

Okay, some details on the build. I didn't take a lot of pictures during the build but hopefully I can convey the gist of it. First of all, a little more on the design criteria. After looking at tons of different set ups, it quickly became apparent that every rig has it's pros and cons. We kind...

    Edgestar fp430 question ??????

Do you plug it in differently when the engine is running? I had a similar problem when I tried to use a 12v extension that was only rated at like 5 amps - compressor wouldn't turn on.
