That's seems like a good price on that water tank. I just looked at that sellers website and the prices are even lower - maybe they get you on shipping though. Worth a look. Don't know anything about the company but Amazon reviews look good enough.
Very, very early. It's mostly theory for now on this setup, stay tuned...
Yeah, I couldn't figure out how the Sterling was working for people but some swear by it. Could be that they have figured out a way to program it or it could be that they are slowly killing their batteries. Not too...
It seems like it would doesn't it! And I have no idea why it doesn't!! Somehow the BMV is really reading the battery voltage and not the charging voltage. This honestly seems like voodoo to me but I'm sure there is an explanation.
Wow, I just got my stuff from clean power auto a month and a half ago. Must have been one of the last lucky ones. That really sucks as it's a slick and affordable set up. And yes, the BMS as I have it hooked up is only doing the cell level monitoring and super-danger-zone shutdown based on...
Just measured mine. I'm using the 90-degree ell and 1-1/4" hose. It sticks out just a hair under 3" with the threads bottomed out in the tank so your estimate is right on. Maybe could use a PVC reduced then a smaller diameter ell (should stick out less) but then your fill hose would be smaller...
Thanks Anthony!
Yes, there's a lot to get one's head around on this subject and I'm certainly no expert. I have done many, many hours of research and study trying to understand it. Frankly I still don't get it all but I think some experimentation now will help fill in the gaps.
Anyway, yeah...
Whoa, that's some serious battery capacity! Look forward to seeing your setup.
Kind of surprising how little info there is on how to really make lithium work - boaters are way ahead of the RV crowd it seems but it's still not widely adopted technology. For anyone interested, the most...
Thanks! That's a 100Ah pack. I used CALB cells. The four cells, balance boards and bus bars came to about $600 shipped. That gives me 80Ah being most conservative with a minimum state of charge (SOC) of 20%. Equivalency to lead acid depends on how much capacity you believe is actually usable...
Thanks!
It's the Victron Cyrix Li-ct. It's specifically intended for lithium batteries. It has different connect/disconnect voltages than the normal Cyrix combiners and has a remote input that can disconnect the batteries with a signal from a BMS. I got the 230 amp version only because I...
Progress on a few fronts since the last update. Biggest time-suck has been getting the battery and charging set up.
First step was getting the lithium battery "built" and installed and anchored down. Here's how it looks:
It's crowded in there but it all fits. Once I got the battery wired in...
Great progress!
I sympathize with you on the sanding . I'm probably not as OCD as you, but even getting things looking "good enough" takes lots of time. Kudos for doing it right!
Looking forward to more details on the mounts. I'm going back and forth on ideas and sweating it too. What is that...
Well, been distracted with other things for a while but did make some progress on a few fronts...
Finished installing and plumbing the hot water heater. The unit has a temperature/pressure relief valve and a drain valve. I plumbed those through a thru-hull drain. Rest of it was pretty straight...
Wow, excellent progress! Looking great.
I'm hoping to avoid the usual outside the bed tie downs too. Seems the trick with ratchet straps or any internal tie down (especially in the front) is reaching it to tighten it down. If you have that part figured out, should work. I think Four Wheel...
Hadn't seen that one before. Very cool.
Okay, here's what's happening with the electrical system. This is mostly all to do with battery charge management and protection, some of which is very specific to using LFP batteries. LFP is great in a lot of ways but the key is to not over charge or...
Yeah, I really tried to make propane work, I think it is the way to go. I like the idea of the $100ish on demand ones. A few brands are set up to run a flue and seem like they would work well vented through a wall. Searching this site and others I couldn't really find reference to anyone using...
Okay, some progress in the last couple days...
Working towards finishing the water system. Next item to get in is the hot water heater. After looking at lots and lots of options, we went with this:
That's a 12v 300 watt 3 gallon water heater by Whale. I was expecting to go with some sort of...
I like the bubbles idea for testing leaks.
That makes a lot of sense Gunner, thanks. I'm using Seitz windows which have a barely-open vent position. No current plans for roof vent but could easily add it later.
Just looked up the Marinco solar vents - they look like pretty slick little...
That's great information robert, thanks!
I'll have to check what grade of the copper tube I used - probably not the thicker-walled stuff though. I did get a bit of a kink in one spot so sounds like I should redo that section anyway. I used a cheap flare tool like you mentioned and after...
Little more past work to share before getting caught up to real time...
Progress on the propane system. The forward storage area will hold two 10-lb propane tanks. Got the regulator in. Used copper tubing through a vapor proof thru-hull thingy to keep the propane storage area isolated from the...
