Deciding between Webasto and Espar for heat and hot water and where to mount it

Hi Eberspacher told me mounting a hydronic heater inside would not be allowed although I don't know whose rules? Not theirs certainly. I think the issue was not being able to guarantee the water and combustion chamber staying separate if it failed so you could get exhaust fumes internally Their...

Composting Toilet — Report on 8 months full time usage

But it's only supposed to be biodegradeable and create a bigger surface area for the moisture to evaporate from, combined with probably keeping your deposit off the bottom of your highly expensive bucket. So, grass for instance. Paper. Heather, moss, wood shavings, apple cores etc etc etc. I'm...

    Roof Hatch Recommendations?

In Holland Outbound produce roof hatches that are really low profile, have an optional security cover and are double glazed. If it's not insulated condensation will drip. :)

    high output solar panels?

My solar controller input accepts up to 36 volts. So I may stack three 12v panels into each one which I'm told will be more efficient. But I have yet to check if thats peak or nominal, quite a difference :)

    Water filtering

Hi I would like a RO system but in a camper I think it takes too long, with too much power, too much bulk and cost is not small. If I wanted to park for weeks by a remote beach then a very good idea though. We had blind faith in a three stage Pre-Mac filter while my wife spent about two weeks...

Priming Diesel after filter change in an OM366LA

One thing I'm sure everyone does is fill up at the end of the day wherever possible? AFAIK since the recirculated diesel ends up warming the tank and contents, if you leave it to cool when empty you get the condensation out of the air collecting on the metal sides and running down. Over time...

    Why use a RTT?

Of all the places I've used a ground tent, the times I wish I didn't have to peg anything down because of rocks or really hard ground are few and far between. The number of times I've been really glad I could pitch into the wind, and make use of the ground/foliage etc for protection from wind...

How long will 20kg of propane last?

My current thinking is space for two approx 12kg bottles in a locker. One 6kg refillable Gaslow, one "locally" flavoured. That leaves some externally accessable storage above the plumbed in 6kg for hook up cables etc, the possibility of topping up the valved (so no overfilling) Gaslow from a...

How long will 20kg of propane last?

13kg propane 2 people 6 months for us too. We had an oven but never used it though.

Hydronic vs. Non-Hydronic Heating. (Air & Water)

Our Mog temp guage would sometimes head south on a long down hill run when it was cold out, especially using the exhaust brake for some reason. Substantially dipped immediately with that on.

Hydronic vs. Non-Hydronic Heating. (Air & Water)

Hi I Hi No link sorry. As I said it's just what I was told. But, by a friend I trust who has built an in use camper truck and had a lot of help and input from Eberspacher. I do have some fitting guidance they sent me directly for my install but I have yet to go through all that. But mine...

Hydronic vs. Non-Hydronic Heating. (Air & Water)

snipped Hi. I wasn't suggesting an issue with factory fit as engine pre heat or cabin heat if OE. I've been told Eberspacher suggests a heat exchanger to isolate the engine coolant circuit from the camper one, with the engine struggling to pressurise as a possible consequence if you don't put a...

Hydronic vs. Non-Hydronic Heating. (Air & Water)

The only reasons I could imagine you may change the attainable pressure in the engine coolant circuit is normally that circuit might have perhaps a few feet of rubber piping, but changing that to tens of feet round a camper might be too much? Plus the camper will need a header tank, plus a lot...

Hydronic vs. Non-Hydronic Heating. (Air & Water)

Hi As far as I've been told, if you plumb into a vehicle cooling system and then extend that a considerable amount all round a camper, the engine will struggle to create the same pressure it would as standard, and so "perhaps" not cool as efficiently. Lower pressure gives lower boiling point. So...

    Pulled the trigger

The people who built our new box quoted for an angled back end and a sloping front above the cab too (better mpg suggested for that part) but I thought the cost wasn't worth it. Also, how are you going to mount your two (?) spare tyres? AV built a chassis extension so we could put one tyre plus...

    MB Truck Exhaust Route

Cloud9 is certainly a level of build to aspire to :) I wonder if a knob below the steering wheel might be a hand throttle considering it's previous life? So maybe you pull it to raise the rpms? Or unscrew?

    MB Truck Exhaust Route

Sorry, when I said air up I meant the tyres. All four would easily take an hour from sand driving soft psi, the left rear had the exhaust outlet aiming straight at you. An attachment that actually clipped on to and stayed on the valve without me holding it would have been very welcome. Any...

    MB Truck Exhaust Route

Hiya Can I be nosey and ask why? The only reason I'd thought of to not roof exit is soot on the solar panels. But a low down exit annoys people we parked next to on morning start up, and was less than cool when using the truck air supply to air up again. Maybe your truck doesn't smoke much? :)

Hydronic vs. Non-Hydronic Heating. (Air & Water)

Do you want hot water? Also Eberspacher tell me a hydronic has to be outside your living space, their air heater can be inside, air in- and outlets suitably ducted for both of course.. Air ducts will be bigger than a water pipe, so how easily can you get the heated air/water from the heater to...

Toilet Solution for LONG TERM Overlanding trips

The Separett composting loo from Sweden is often used with bracken because that's what there is there. I can't imagine any composting toilet "needs" any specific organic matter, just something that will compost and will enlarge the surface area the moisture you add can evaporate from. And the...
