I can probably help translate. The money saving strategy is "recycling" the Ambo versus a new truck build. I think this will be built out 2wd for less than $25K and $35K if I have to put power to the front wheels.
The reference to leaving it behind is based on our experience of having to leave...
Ah bugger! Used our 1.5 seconds of fame on an unwashed, unfinished, hacked together rig. I found the comment "We mistakenly assumed that the ambulance donor platform was just for visual flair" very interesting on obviously the ugliest vehicle there. Never before have I ever been accused of...
If you get stuck rub a raw potato on it.
Old bush trick (where the wipers only get used once every couple of years). Just slice a potato and rub it over the shield. Makes the water run off. Works on helmet shields, wing shields etc.
Its all relative. This is how to make it look small and also take away from the fluro color. Just pick your parking spot carefully.
And from the guys at www.ExploringElements.com another view so I can try and convince the missus thats its not really big. It just looks that way sometimes...
OK Packed (mostly) and ready to head to expo.
We will be in the feature vehicles area so drop in and check it out. Hopefully parked next to Tony's little mini-me ambovan thing
Sorry no expo delivery. Rig is packed and there is no room now.
Pickup in Phoenix would be the best option. I will ship and can have them at a commercial place for pickup if that helps. I estimate around 150lbs each.
Well I am surprised by the interest. 3 people have expressed interest. When I get a chance (buried in Expo prep and typing this while on a conf call) I will get some photos and dimensions.
2 Goodyear 11:00R20 tires. Both have sidewall repairs professionally done. One has new tread (nipples still on it) the other is very high tread. These are tube type tires only.
Now apparently these were damaged in storage (ex military) and the guy who had them got them fixed by a retreading...
Never installed. Sold that ambo and got one that had better headroom. The top is in my backyard and available for anyone who will use it. Like free, gratis, no money (but alcoholic beverages in brown bottles labeled Negra Modello always accepted :) )
OK I have a number of swivel seat bases (only 1 with me in LA) that came out of my ambulances. These were all made to have the seat belt at the seat level not attached to the floor.
1- SOLD ********** Lets call this one the frame base. Bottom bolt holes are 16" x 16". Top holes are 12 1/4" x...
No locker or limited slip yet. When I work out what final gearing I need I will chase down a full locker for it. I am also considering fitting On Spot chains if I can source a set at the right price.
Ok the lift is under way.
Pulled the rear suspension apart and got the blocks machined. The aluminum was notched to fit around the axle and into the original bracket. Biggest pain was getting it up in the air enough to get the blocks into place. But the blocks are in. Rear wheel well on one...
I was going to use Freightliner parts but $87 per block and $54 per U Bolt with a 1-2 week delivery was a bit too much to put up with. So off to the metal shop I went. T6061 aluminum bar which I will get machined to size. U Bolts will be custom made by the local spring works (3/4 grade 8 on the...
