    Freightliner ambulance conversion project.

Current clearance height according to the labels on the dash is 9' 7". And if I put a RTT on it will be over the cab not the box roof. With the lift and wheels I figure on being at the 10' 4" - 10' 6" clearance (Awning and solar). I will carry a long reach chain saw just in case :). This model...

Suspension mods as well. Have to cut out the rear wheel wells. 3 inch block lift on both ends and cut back the front bumper. Also probably the biggest PITA I have to replace all the front wheel studs with longer ones. The front hubs are oil filled so pulling them off means a greater chance of...

Seeing these tires side by side brings home the reality of how much work it will be to fit them.

A question about tires??? Specifically experience with Michelin XZL and XML or G177

Ha I understand tyre but after 15+ years out of Oz I am getting ambidextrous with the bastardization of English spelling in the other colonies. Thanks guys. I ended up up going with Goodyear G177 based mostly on the $$$$. They should arrive this week and then the fun of stuffing them under the...

Merkabah: MB 2626 AK 6x6 tipper to expedition truck conversion

Having ridden around the Chilean deserts I think CTIS would be a real asset. Is it possible to unplug that system when you will be traveling through wooded areas and reinstall when hitting the deserts, beaches or mountain passes?

Hi Pairoa, man I respect the effort you have put into "La Bestia". Looking forward to sharing a pisco sour or 2 and checking it out when I get to Chile.

SRW on the Freightliner. Mockup because the tires are not here yet. SO in a fit of lunacy I decided to mockup the wheel change to see if spaces were needed. (more on the facts later). No real compressor, harbor freight air impact gun, 1/2" battery rattle gun, 7000lb floor jack, some 12T jack...

Nutsert/Rivet Nuts - Anyone here have experience with these?

I have never used them for automotive stuff but they are great for electrical control boards. But I have used Dzus fasteners and they are great for what you are trying to do. Might get a bit speedy though.http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dzus_fastener

A question about tires??? Specifically experience with Michelin XZL and XML or G177

OK a couple of facts to start with before I get the "why not" type answers. I am limited by lug pattern and rim availability to 20 x 9 wheels. (oh I wish I could of got 22.5 x 8 or 9 with the correct back spacing to single it out) Until I am sure about this rig I don't want to put a the...

Yep they are 8 x 275. I will let you know how they go for clearance and also alignment back to front. May need a group buy on custom spacers for the rear.

The Rambulance: FL50 Freightliner Ambulance / Camper / Tow Rig - Conversion

Actually I think you will find it has hydraulic disk brakes. From my research all the 8 lug Freightliners were hydraulic disks. They are big buggers and have plenty of stopping power with more feel but not as much stopping power real air brakes. (don't be confused by the air actuated park brake).

Go big or stay home. So the day starts with a redeye flight Phoenix to Newark and then a short 100+ mile jaunt to Delaware a quick 4 hours work and I figure I might head to the hotel for a nap. But since it was St Patricks day Murphy decided to pay me a visit. A few weeks ago i had made an...

WTB 98 Ford E series passenger seat swivel mount

1998 ford for one of them and 1999 freightliner for the other 2. Fairly sure they they are all the same. Probably the same manufacturer. 2 of them came out of the box part of the ambos but one came out of the front (3rd/jump seat) of the freightliner.

    Oakland/Bigfoot 20' Class C 4x4

I had to modify it. The F and the E are totally different. The Warn bumper is really a skin bolted up to a new subframe that holds the winch and bolts up to the horns on the van frame. 8 1/2 grade 8 bolts.

WTB 98 Ford E series passenger seat swivel mount

I have a couple of swivel seat bases out of my ambo's. Not sure of the fit to the ford bolt pattern but they are very heavy duty and come with the seat belt mounts for lap belts. Let me know if you want some photos/dimensions.

    Oakland/Bigfoot 20' Class C 4x4

Nice setup. I have a Warn winch bumper for sale but it was converted from an F series (ends cut off to suit 35" tires). It does bolt straight up to the E series horns. http://www.expeditionportal.com/forum/threads/118936-For-Sale-Winch-bumper-modified-to-fit-E350-E250-vans-%28Phoenix%29
