My thoughts are that its really not about how you build it is more about how you use it. For example my last 4x4 was a 97 Zj on a 3.5" lift 29"s with 3.55 and a rear auto locker. While I wanted to build it as an overland vehicle it was. Primary taken out for 1 day trip in the year that i owned...
A recommendation on a true that might interest you is the the Bfg All terrains kos (not sire on the ko2s) I have a set of 235/75r15s installed on my 1997 zj and I've driven from Boulder Colorado to Moab Utah about 475-500 miles and then wheeled moab all with 1000 pounds of camping gear in the...
The lockrite is absolutely amazing it works great even just cruising down the road no vibrations . As for lock Hart I don't think I could have done the main canyon section without it.
I wish I could but I don't know how timing will work out because I just went to moab in March. But if I can, I will it's not to far of a drive (about 7-8 hours) and I can go camping out there too.
Yup I still have a bit more to add befoe this thread is caught up. And as for the engine I have a 4.0 with 180k and it runs perfect barely Burns oil starts in a second even on cold days.
Next up was a lift went with a 3.5" trailmaster short arm lift. For this I also got a better track bar in the front as well as a 2" steering drop pitment arm.
Flex test on the rock.
Much better looking
here is it at full flex.
Then I added a rear locker from lockrite auto locker . No pics...
Got sick of the alloy rig color. So as common as it is I painted them black.
really starting to love my zj.
Posing next to my friends Lj on 35s man I need a lift. My zj it tiny.
First real mod was a transfer case skid plate (eBay for 50$ off an other zj that had the factory plate.) Don't...
So I finally decided to start a build thread for my 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee. A quick history on the vehicle. It is my first car and it has been passed down through my family as "the first car" my mom originally bought it in 1997 used with 8k on it. Kept it stock for 16 years then it was given...
Illinois and Missouri gulch can be done stock in the summer and I made it just in 8" of powder it was difficult but in an aggressive stock 4x4 but would be much easier with a rear locker. But in the winter steer clear of moab Hill in a normal stock truck suv or 4x4.
I would go with a zj because they aren't too small and aren't to big. I've gonna camping in my 97 with 4 people two dogs and supplied with out a problem. As far as off road capabilities they are stock solid axles a 2.72 low range and with I believe a 2.74 first gear (4 spd auto 42re) and axles...
