This is built by a guy on iH8Mud who builds things exclusively for Cruisers. It is a full overland style bumper with double swing outs and a fold down table on the backside of the tire carrier. The table is really nice, I used it every single day on a recent 3-week trip to Baja. A Camp Partner...
Well, I guess I didn't update this after my last post.
So I took the SD33 N/A from my 83 Patrol to the machine shop, right around Christmas Eve. I gave them the real nice TD injection pump from Spain along with an original turbo I got nearly 10yrs ago from New Zealand. I asked them to send the...
You got vinyl floor right? I might do that sooner or later, I know you are a carpet fan but so much easier to clean up when it is vinyl. Full kit from Ebay.australia is well under $500 shipped.
Cheers bro
Ok so it appears the big wire is #1g. The run from the batteries to the terminal block is roughly 10ft, maybe 8ft but not more than 10ft. The winch is going to be the longest run at about 15ft. I have not used the winch yet since the re-wire. Starter wire is also 1g and about an 8ft run.
Any...
Ha, yes a little Howard! It is processing though and I will see if I can get an estimate of lengths of the runs. I used the biggest wire I could get at Napa without going super huge semi stuff. I could be wrong on my stating it is 1g. The winch wires are nearly as big around as my thumb. The...
Here is some pics if it helps clear things up a bit.
This is the terminal block in the engine bay. Yes that is my charcoal canister wire tied to it! Hack I know but was rushed before the trip and I want to re-do the terminal block and re-locate the charcoal canister.
The mass of wires...
Wiring as it comes down from the engine bay, starter wire is on the right. I ran all these through the inner fender.
maybe doesn't look like it but it is all secure, you can see one of the wire clamps upper left of the picture securing the harness.
Where it enters the cab by the rear RHS...
Gave the truck a good solid wash today, now just for the interior. Unfortunately the boiler in the shop is giving me some dramas and not firing so cold in the shop right now which means I am in no hurry to get out there and work. That should be fixed early next week though, tech showing up to...
As the title says.
I recently prepp'ed my 80 series Cruiser for a trip to Baja. I was in a bit of a hurry so didn't do the wiring exactly as I wanted to. Basically I needed to relocate my battery from the engine bay to the back of the truck. I also added an aux battery and a National Luna 2nd...
So the Cruiser got more filthy on this trip than any other trip I have taken in any truck. Not sure why exactly but it did. I have taken the last week to heal up and recover and have only driven the truck once or twice. A 2-liter of Coke busted open inside my storage chest and leaked all over...
Thanks Phil, appreciate it.
I wanted to wait to see how this one played out before I reported on it more. The FrontRunner grill kind of let me down on the trip. It came with a sharp edge all the way around the outside edge. I didn't take the time to grind it down before I left. This sharp...
So far that was the big one. Also I don't have a stock motor so that can and has caused some issues. Lastly, being me, I can create the can of worms! :)
Sitting here right now, most of what I can think of in 1-2 minutes is not related to a stock 80. Such as air box and battery relocation, winch...
I think you will have to decide that one on your own, the if it gets you the truck you want. Most people here are LC fans, some more than others and some have had lot's of other trucks too so in that regard you will get good advice here. But nobody can tell you if it will be the truck you want...
Kind of hard to really comment without more info. How many miles are on the truck? What kind of previous life has it lived? What kind of service did it get in all those years?
Is it going to cost you a lot of money to bring it up to the standards you are looking for? My guess is yes it will...
