Advantages/Disadvantages Of A Titanium Crankshaft and Camshaft

Disadvantage: Cost and associated fear of failure factor with ultra high tech in the backcountry or 3rd world. Huge Advantage: Win every argument with the spork people. Them: “Titanium is the best and sporks are the best and you suck without one you pre Victorian troglodyte caveman still...

WTB Autohome RT tent extra long Ladder

Lots of hardware stores carry the telescopic ladders that are common in RTT in all sorts of lengths. I know OSH used to stick them everywhere before Lowe’s shut them down.

    Tepui kukenam 3 mattress mod

You’re probably not charging enough for your kidney... I don’t own an Exped, but I’m seriously considering it. When will someone make one custom sized to fit RTT floors perfectly? It seems like the market is big enough.

Camp Plate "SET" and pan "SET"

I had a set of these (still do), that I initially wanted for the classic camp nostalgia. They are great for many reasons, indestructible, stovetop use, very thin and light... I abandoned them for one key reason... they conduct too much heat. Notice in the picture that you have the plate...

Camp Plate "SET" and pan "SET"

I’m using magma pots, minus some things and plus a teakettle (my only titanium in that kettle). For plates, I’m using melamine plates and bowls I got at Target. Their claim to fame is heavy duty, lightweight, cheap and most important...square. They fit more efficiently in the camp kitchen box.

    Modifying my AT Chaser

Thanks. If you wanted to do something similar but lighter duty and easier, you could probably replace all the roof track bolts and bolts down the middle of the lid with eye bolts and then lace or use bungee cord through them. Some strips of thick foam weatherstrip tape stuck to the lid would...

    Modifying my AT Chaser

Inside - lid rack to hang items: This was the first thing I did. The lid has a “spine” of sorts with a row of bolts holding 2 halves together. I put an angle iron along the outer row of holes where the roof carrier will mount and a strip along the spine on each side and connected them with...

    Modifying my AT Chaser

Bal-C jacks. This wasn’t the first thing I did, but it was the first one I took pictures of. A pair of 31” stabilizers was about $100 give or take on amazon. The shipping box destroyed itself in UPS so make sure you check for all the parts when they deliver. Some 1/8” plate bent for a little...

    Modifying my AT Chaser

So, I was the lucky purchaser of a 2007 AT Chaser last fall. It was a pretty nice deal, although I had to drive 600 miles for it. I’m sort of pre-wired to modify and overhaul things, so it didn’t take long to decide I wasn’t going to live with a few little things I wanted to change. This is...

SOLD: Tepui Kukenam 3 Sky - Fresno CA

Thanks for the bump. Tent is currently folded shut and leaning up against garage wall. Unfortunately, I don’t have much free time right now. I might get a few pics before the weekend, but no promises right now.

What would you do? Chevrolet Silverado died

Did your mechanic by chance offer to “get this thing off your hands” at a bargain basement price?

What would you do? Chevrolet Silverado died

What about get a second opinion on the engine repair? Then maybe slap a used engine in, sell it, and then go to #4? I’m looking at my neighbors 08 Silverado right now that has the collapsed lifter issue... he was quoted 9k to repair... I’m guessing you could do it yourself for much less, or...

    Military trailer overland budget build

Purely from a visual perspective, you might find yourself with a low tongue weight problem. I would suggest that you think about weight placement before you start building.

    Do's and Don'ts

Best thing to take camping with kids is more kids. Let them bring friends or a family that is friends and let the kids run wild while you focus on good food and lots of snacks.

Welding camper brackets to truck frame?

I don’t think I would weld to something where the reason for not bolting was proximity to a fuel tank. If you remove the tank for welding safety, you might as well do the bolting/huck bolting/hydraulic riveting.

    It's a start

I think this sounds plausible. I really don’t know the reason. however, that the fold in sheet metal adds significant rigidity to the side of the trailer. The OP trailer box is built around a frame, but most aren’t. A piece of straight sheet is really floppy in comparison to the folded profile.

How many running the Rhino Backbone? Have you found a rear cargo area rack/shelf that will work?

I made my own, used exhaust clamp u-bolts to hold it to the sides of the roll bar and an upper hoop/cargo cage that has 4x 1” webbing straps with ladder lock style tensioners around the upper roll bar to keep it from pivoting around the u-bolts when loaded (ask how many trips it took to figure...
