Anyone *purposely* lock themselves inside their camper shell?

For at least 20 years, SnugTop has had a feature on their center-lock rear doors that allows one to lock and unlock from the inside. It's a red button built into the center of the inside of the latch, just push it and turn the latch to open. I have these on three trucks and they work fine...

    MaxTrax, are they worth it?

Depends where you get stuck. My Dodge has two selectable lockers and limited slip and a winch and shovels and straps. I still managed to get stuck in the sand in East BF AZ, and had to call for help. That's when I decided to carry MaxTrax and a Pull-Pal.

    MaxTrax, are they worth it?

I carry two pair on the Dodge and one pair in the Tundra. Use them once and they have paid for themselves.

Wedco Pre-CARB spout gaskets -- Where can I find new ones?

Old school solution would be to cut your gasket out of leather, even from an old shoe or purse. Standard practice for cobbling together old British roadsters.

    Vehicle advice

I have, and Jaguars too. It was, in fact, an Audi that put me over the edge on aluminum panels, especially for a truck that gets used as a truck..

trying to understand battery capacity terminology

Not true for all batteries. Some Optimas are not at full charge until resting OCV is 13.2V. Odyssey G31 requires something north of 14.7V to charge properly, but its resting OCV at 100% SOC is 12.85V. Lots of variations from manufacturer to manufacturer.

    Vehicle advice

I am avoiding anything with an EcoBoost, because complexity leads to failure, and repairs down the road will be expensive. I keep my trucks a long time. And I don't want anything with aluminum panels. Even though my son works for Ford. But that's just me.

    Vehicle advice

I have a second gen Tundra and it's just a Sequoia with a bed. Crewmax has a huge cab, but very short bed. Not nearly the "truck" that my Dodge or old GMC is, but it's fast and comfortable, very thirsty. I'd suggest at least looking at a Power Wagon or Ram 1500 crew cab. If those seem like...

2015 Ram 1500 in Death Valley

Dodge factory hooks are pretty stout and should be easy to find and mount. Can't break them, so a junkyard might be your best bet on a budget.

    Front locker?

I thought about it on my K1500, but the consensus was that the GM 1/2-ton front diff and axle shafts are a weak point and the locker would probably cause breakage.

How do you keep your winch secure?

Try McMaster-Carr, they have lots of that kind of stuff. You can't stop a determined crook, you can only slow him down. Make his task slow or noisy and he will probably move on. If your truck has an alarm system, check with a competent shop to see if they can add some sort of sensor to detect...

Camper shell by SNUG-TOP for sale

Probably be a good idea to list the specific SnugTop model, or post a pic.

    OBA: What hose for plumbing/interconnect?

The stainless braided hose is available in various lengths, with fittings. May work if your runs are not too long.

Seat covers (cloth/synthetic) OVER leather seats?

Another alternative would be Wet Okole covers. I am on the second set in my 2005 PW, and they fit like a glove, very comfortable, look factory. Downsides are that they are very expensive (at least by my standards) and will wear out. I have CoverCraft cordura in my old GMC, been in there for...

Electronic rear lockers vs. a "limited slip differential"?

Since you want a gasser, the PW is the way to go if you don't need all the capacity of a one-ton. If you need a one-ton, either will be fine, because you can always add a selective locker to the Ram. If you get a used PW with rear leaf springs, you can easily upgrade the spring packs with...

Recommendations on fog lights and driving lights

Tundra first gen or second gen? If no factory fogs, there are a bunch of mounting kits to put fogs in the factory location, or just buy factory parts for the mounts and then get whatever lights you want. Wire them through a relay to a separate switch, ignore the factory controls. For snowy...

Creative ways to get height at rear axle?

It's not clear as to what you are actually trying to accomplish. Do you just want to raise the rear of the Highlander for appearance? For more ground clearance? For more tire clearance? To improve departure angle? To increase load capacity? To level it when you have a load? How much do...

MaxTrax at the 2017 SEMA Show

Thanks for posting. That nesting jack pad seems like a great idea if it will fit into a stack of four Maxtrax mounted on their pins. Would also be sweet if they will sell the metal teeth as repair items for the standard Maxtrax. I can see drilling out melted nubs on the standard Trax and...

Corner brackets to locate storage boxes

If inside the truck, just make some corners out of thin plywood. Or get some aluminum angle, cut a wedge out of one leg, and fold the other leg at 90 degrees. I think some of the floor mat companies still make plastic corners designed to velcro onto their cargo mats, and those can probably be...
