Just a few quick updates on some modifications we have added to the truck.
I've finished the rear winch plate, installed the winch and wired it all up to the dash controls. I've also made some gas bottle holders to take the two 2kg gas bottles we use for outside cooking
Alosn with some...
We used out Nature's Head composting toilet for the last 6 week trip. Works great, no smell at all escapes the toilet. We both prefer using it over any long drop toilet. The only bad thing is having to empty the pee bottle, best done daily if possible, as it is a bit stinky when pouring it...
Must be 950W, if they had 950kW they would not have any problem. I know a guy who runs an a/c system off his camper batteries, check out this thread. http://www.expeditionportal.com/forum/threads/83962-NPS-Camper-Build/page4
He runs 240V system throughout his truck as he has found them more...
Only time it ws a bit scary was going down hill and the back started to move out, I just floored the accelerator and it straightened up, apart from that it was surprisingly easy, just chugging along in low range 4 or 5th.
It was not pleasant outside, but bearable inside the truck even without...
We had a great time at Arkaroola, great camping down next to the river and very quiet. With the weather starting to get hot we headed up to the most isolated part of our trip. The Birdsville Track through the desert gets a fair amount of traffic in the winter months, it is around 500km of...
I have mine inside to keep the water from freezing if I'm out in a cold climate, if you don't plan on taking it outside of Australia, then external tanks would be fine unless you go up to the snowfields in winter.
We are now in the more remote part of our trip - we only get an intenet connection when we are parked next to the offices of the camp ground, and it is now 37 Deg C outside, only 30 Deg C inside thanks to the insulation, but it will get hotter :)
So far the only problems have been loose...
Thanks for the invitation, we are going to visit Spudboy on Tuesday :) Spending the evening at his place then off to his secret spot on the Yorke Peninsular, we are staying at another Unimog owners farm tomorrow night near Langhorne Creek, and only getting to Dave's place in the evening when he...
Yes, it was about 100m offshore - had to stay below the level of the cliff as there were helicopters around, they are not allowed lower than 500m, and I have to stay below 120m, but to be safe from their down-drafts I kept it around 40m maximum.
Sitting here this morning with no clouds and we...
I have solved our power problem for now, with the addition of three 100W portable solar panels. I got the lightweight flexible ones, and mounted them to aluminium frames which I made from Tubelock. Got some strange looks from the fellow campers when I set up the tables and pulled a drill and...
At the time the LiPo4 batteries were ridiculously expensive, I did design the battery boxes to take them ,but since I had bought 6 Optima 31Ts, I thought it best to give them a try. Once they become a bit cheaper and these Optimas wear out, I will swap over to LiPo4s.
We are currently on a six week shake down trip in the Mog, I've updated my blog Iain and Trish's Unimog Adventures with all the latest details and will keep that update as we go.
I fitted a second set of brake callipers to the rear axle, and with some re-plumbing of the brake lines, we were...
I had a similar problem, ended up with a different intake for the snorkel. I also tried to bend the plastic, but after and hour with the heat gun gently warming it up I gave up, too scared it would deform too much and I would wreck it.
Looks good, why did you raise the air intake by the way, planning on crossing some really deep rivers? :smiley_drive:
I kept mine low to take advantage of the high pressure area in front of the windscreen - help reduce intakes losses, every little bit helps :)
