SMB, Alaskan, or Tiger; Can Tiger Withstand Rough Roading

I looked at all three of the vehicles that you are interested in when I was considering what to buy. They all have their strengths but I think that the pickup, utility bed and an Alaskan or similar popup camper is the most versatile combination that you have identified. One of the nice things...

    House battery bank question

Thanks for the insights, I switched the wiring to the recommended setup. It is not quite as tidy but it does seem reasonable that it would provide better balance. I tend to agree that the two battery approach is probably not the best method to gain amp hours but the batteries I used had a small...

    House battery bank question

Sorry I wasn't clear on my question. The batteries are wired in parallel so they are producing 12 volts and 200 amp hours. My question concerns the outputs from the batteries to the distribution panel.I currently am running both the positive and negative outputs from one battery but am wondering...

My house battery bank consists of two 100 amp hour deep cycle batteries wired in parallel. They are side by side and are joined with heavy gauge jumpers. My question concerns the best position to attach the positive and negative leads. I currently have both the positive and negative running from...

How would you outfit this custom LJ?

roof top tent Thanks for the ID on the African outback roof top tent. I like the full length design with the minimal height above the roofline. Have you thought about the possiblity of hinging the front of your top roof panel and using it in the same style? It seems like a very similar setup...

F-350 ideas That's a great find. I think that you will find the ultility body is one of the best parts of the truck,I would keep it. A dual rear wheel size box has an unbelievable amount of storage and organization capacity and the dualies can actually carry the load. I have five years and...

    Short bed utility body????

utility bed I have run several utility beds including five years on the latest one.I think that it may be a function of the type of weather you get but I have no problems with leakage or rust. Mine is loaded and ready to go 24/7. I do think that they have some issues, cost new, weight and limited...

Which bike would make a good "lifeboat" for a Unimog?

best bike Nice to see all the love for the TW,for the last four years I have used mine in pretty much exactly the way you describe. I have had zero issues or problems. The only real limitation is that depending on gearing it is not very happy for extended runs of much over 45 mph. The good news...

How Do You Carry an Axe, Shovel and High Lift?

I wouldn't rule out a tool rack on the tailgate. I carry my axe and shovel on mine and the weight is a non issue but it is a clean out of the way area in my application. The high lift could be mounted below the tailgate to act as a bumper.

    JK/J8 Flippac rumor??

While the total number of LJ's was limited they seem to be falling into the hands of enthusiusts when they enter the resale market. I think that the percentage of LJ owners that might consider a flippac would be considerably higher then the average JK owner. I would be very interested in one for...

    Super single options for F 450 - F550

Although you said you didn't want to use 19.5" tires have you read the discussions over on the Mitsubishi heavy truck forum? The aussies are very pleased with the performance of the Toyo m608z in a 285/70/r19.5. These are right in your size range and have plenty of capacity. They claim to be...

    Alaskan

My extension is very simple, I just used a piece of 12''wide shelving to bridge the gap from the section of the counter holding the sink to the front wall. I used shelf supports that just insert in a 3/8 inch hole drilled into the trim at the end of the existing counter top and the front wall...

    Alaskan

Your camper looks great.I really like the provision for a full size mattress, that has been my biggest complaint with our Alaskan after 400 plus nights out. Even with the extended cabover you are still limited to a 4 inch thick pad and that gets old pretty quick.A super easy addition that you...

How would you outfit this custom LJ?

I have been looking at my LJ as an alternitive to my Superduty -Alaskan camper combo for short trips into some more remote areas. You can deck the rear area at the hardtop lower flange and get a 48 inch deck. with the front seats all the way forward and a flip down front section you have about 72...

truck weights My 2001 Superduty gas extended cab with a service body and an eight foot alaskan camper with full tanks, two people, and gear for two months including a 200 tw yamaha on the rear weights right at 11,000 pounds. Camper and Truck Photos

Snow in the Alaskan While rain or snow getting in an Alaskan cabover while being raised or lowered is an often repeated criticism it has never been an issue for us. Maybe on the older ones with the hand operated pump but the electric pump has it up in very short order and the drop time is also...
