Ram 3500 Crew Cab Diesel/ Knapheide service body/ Camper install

Your right it does suck to blow a tire at 70 all loaded up,on a trip to Moab I had two new rear tires fail at speed. It will definitely get your attention. I have posted several pictures over the years that should be available. I'll see if I can attach a couple.

Are roof racks really worth it?

I have a 2006 LJ I bought new also, we are in a pretty elite club. I have a Congo cage and a basket that I generally run with my soft top. It works ok as you can pull the basket off when you don't need it and the cage doesn't really hurt the mileage. I also put a set of bolt on gutter mounts on...

Nice shots, we camp and paddle a lot at Bartlett Lake, Horseshoe is usually dry when we have been there.Have you ever floated the Verde from Horseshoe to Bartlett?

Ram 3500 Crew Cab Diesel/ Knapheide service body/ Camper install

Tire capacity Great looking rig, I have run a similar setup for the last 10 years and I think that it is one of the best combo for for overlanding vehicles in the US that will see extensive travel on pavement as well as offroad. I would caution you to check your total rear axle weight and also...

    E150 camper problems

My son is on a climbing trip in the high Sierra's in his 1989 Ford E150 camper van with a 351 V-8. After being parked overnight at high elevations, 7000 to 9000 feet it runs rough on start up and the gauges don't work. If he shuts it off and disconnects the battery and then reconnects it runs...

    Kargo Master 5025-1 (74" x 52") on Jeep Wrangler Unlimited (2005) (LJ)

Congo Cage I have a Congo Cage and the standard length rack on my LJ Rubicon. I put my kayaks on top of the rack with the hulls flat with no real issues. If you mount them on their sides it's going to get pretty high. I saw a setup where the owner had run a long set of load bars across the top...

    Unlimited Rubicon with M100 Trailer

I have the exact same LJ and I find that it works much better to make it a trailer then to pull one. My F-350 barely knows it's back there and the mileage pulling it is not much worse then the LJ gets when it's all loaded down.

    New Rider and TW owner

I think that you will love your TW , they are sweet little machines. Make sure that your tires are at the recommended pressure, if they are overinflated the bike can be very flighty on the gravel. Depending on your weight you might need to drop the pressure even lower then the recommended to...

Truck selection/modifications for offroad popup truck/camper?

truck selections for alaskan camper I have put over 86,000 miles on my F-350 superduty eight foot alaskan camper combo. It has a steel utility bed on it that weights significantly more then a aluminum flatbed. I carry everything that we need for trips that last two to three months and it ranges...

    KLR 650 2 up?

I have a TW200 and a 2009 KLR that I use for the purposes that you are describing. I actually like the TW better for short rides(under 20 miles) then the KLR, less fuss, better suited to just putting around and it has plenty of room for the two of us as the passenger can sit back on the rack with...

    Dream Boat

Nice boat,I have a Mad River 18 foot TW special and a 16 foot solo Traveler that I bought back in the early 80's. They are great boats and have stood up well over the years but they are not quite as pretty as yours! You might try a simple rowing setup on your boat,I built a set of outboard...

    2000 miles of nervous nirvana....

Tough Trip through Paradise Metcalf, sounds like lots of fun, when you get the Unicorn built you will look back fondly about how tough you were in the good old days! I did lots of 300-400 mile days in my 1971 CJ,4.88 gears,T18, and a 225 v-6. The speed limit was 55 in those days and it worked...

    LJ Sleeping Setups (not RTTs)

I had a chance to get a measurement this afternoon, I was a little optimistic, it's right at 16 inches to the bottom of the deck.

    LJ Sleeping Setups (not RTTs)

That would fit under my deck easily, I usually have a cooler but that looks like an interesting fridge. My deck is at the level of the top of the tub so and I think that it has about 18 inches under it to the floor.

    Long Jeep.....chasing unicorns

Metcalf, on my LJ it looks like between 41 and 41.5 depending on what part of the grille you measure to. The grille kind of bulges out towards the middle and the tucks back in at the bottom. The 41.5 is the farthest point forward and the bottom is probably a 1/4 inch less then that. This is at...

    Long Jeep.....chasing unicorns

Metcalf, it's right at 7 feet to the center module of the dash and another three inch's or so directly in front of the passenger seat. I would think with a flat dash you would have about 90 inches front to back. The width of the rear deck runs 54 inch's and necks down to 48 at the factory roll...

    Long Jeep.....chasing unicorns

Like all of your projects this should be interesting. I have a 2006 Rubicon Unlimited and it is close to the perfect size for a vehicle that can drive the 500 miles to Moab in comfort and then wheel with the best of them if you are so inclined. While I have a cargo/sleeping platform in mine I...

    LJ Sleeping Setups (not RTTs)

Another option Check out this link,if you don't mind losing the under storage that the seat takes up this is a great set up that allows the use of the back seat and folds to store behind it. http://offroadpassport.com/forum/showthread.php?t=950

    LJ Sleeping Setups (not RTTs)

Sleepingin an LJ I have been messing around with a platform and storage unit for my LJ for awhile. I just changed the way I supported the decking and tried it out on a recent trip to Arizona. It worked out very well and I think that a person could use it both for storage and sleeping with out...
