    2016 4Runner - Need New Build Advice

Congratulations on your new Trail, we use ours for fast and light camping trips when we don't need all the amenities of the big truck. The one thing that I would deal with immediately is the stock tires. I would sell them while they are worth something and get some tires commensurate with the...

    Camper style - pro/con

I have been running my Alaskan on a utility bed for the last 13 years and 120,000 miles. It's worked great from 700 mile highway days to grinding along in low range to hunting camp. The storage is a game changer with a slide in camper, it makes it organizing and accessing your gear so much...

    Tire size for F250

From a practical standpoint you have about the ideal setup minus the lift. I have the same truck with a v-10. I have a leveling kit with 285's and could get 35's on with a little trimming. I have over a 120 thousand miles with an Alaskan camper on a service body , think real heavy. With in the...

    Front wheel storage during transport

If your not super fussy about your bike I just cam strap them to the frame, as long as the tire is the part in contact doesn't seem to hurt anything and it's cheap and solid.

    Ultimate short bus

I have ridden the old bombardiers into Old Faithful from West Yellowstone a couple of times and I couldn't wait to get out and on my skis. I'm sure they are the high point of many folks trip though , they are a pretty unique experience.

    Ultimate short bus

There are a group of these bad boys sitting at Gardiner Mont. They must be the winter replacement for the snow coaches. They have a real Icelandic truck look to them. I would love to have a camper on one of these. They are E350 based.Anybody know more about them?

    Basil Lynch's 2000 F250 Expedition camper build

It's carrying 10,000 pounds, not towing it. It has a service body and Alaskan camper and they are heavy! The stock trany is still going strong. Have you weighted your rig? Its real easy to exceed the rear tire capacity on these rigs if you load them up.

5th Gen T4R - Storage Drawers / Sleeping Platform Ideas?

I can relate to your situation. I have a F-350 with a service body, Alaskan camper and all the toys for days, weeks or months on the road. The down side is its big, heavy and thirsty. Our daily driver is a 2015 4-runner Trail and its much cheaper to operate and a lot more suited to the light and...

    Basil Lynch's 2000 F250 Expedition camper build

Really like your new ride! My 2001 f-350 has been hauling 10,000 pounds since it rolled off the dealers lot and it still runs and drives great at 120,000 miles. Looking forward to your improvements.

    Going Commando

Hey Tim, thanks for the encouragement! The fellow that I bought it from is a pretty talented builder fabricator. The jeepster was a long term project for him and he has had it for over eight years. He had put about eight thousand miles on it since it was finished so it is pretty well sorted out...

    Going Commando

I don't plan on anything too extreme in this rig. I wanted it mostly to tow behind my truck and camper for a gear hauler and shuttle/runaround vehicle. It should tow nicely with the longer wheelbase and it will easily accommodate our kayaks and mt. bikes. It is mostly going to be a forest road...

    Going Commando

After nine years as my daily driver I sold my LJ Rubicon and replaced it with a new 4-Runner Trail. While the Trail is head and shoulders above the LJ as a daily driver I really missed the Jeep as a recreational 4-wheeler. I have been looking for a reasonably priced replacement for the last...

My next new build is about to start - V3 Explorer - Feedback from the group needed

I thought that might be why you went 20 inch rather then 17.It is very difficult to find a wheel in 17 inch rated anywhere near the capacity of tires like the Toyo's. The Conti MPT's give you a an easy way to significantly increase your carrying capacity if need be. I have found that it"s the...

My next new build is about to start - V3 Explorer - Feedback from the group needed

Amazing work, I think you will really find this size rig is in the sweet spot for livability vs the ability to go anywhere within reason. I would caution you to consider that you will likely end up with significantly more weight on the rear axle then the front. Running similar all up weights I...

    Roof top tent weight.

I am considering buying a used James Baroud Grand Raid XXl to use with my fifth gen 4Runner. Anybody have experience with with this large of a RTT. My 4Runner is a stock Trail with kdss. I routinely carry a 120 pounds of kayaks up top but this tent is listed at 170 pounds hence my concern.thanks...

    I bought the wrong bike

TW200 alternative I just got back from a couple of month's down in the southwest knocking around. I took my new to me 250 Yamaha WRX 250 in place of the TW200 that has accompanied us for the last eight years. It was much more comfortable with real suspension and enough power to easily keep up...

    Dodge Ram 5500 motorhome

Unless you have done a thorough budget it's sobering how expensive it is to do a top drawer camper. My hunting partner had ITB do a flatbed camper box for his Fuso Fg. He did some of the outfitting of the box and contracted a potion. In the end it cost about double what a standard Alaskan camper...

    Camping with Firearm-Post Bear Mauling

bear attack This week a local bow hunter stumbled onto a sleeping grizzly bear while pushing through a brushy coulee on the edge of the Bob Marshall Wilderness. As he started to back away the bear awoke and charged, grabbing him by the head and then the leg shaking him like a rag doll. The bear...

    Is a 4Runner for me?

4-runner I just sold my 2006 LJ Rubicon and my 2012 Subaru Impreza and got a 2015 4-Runner Trail. It has the kdss option and I paid the no haggle price of 36,000. I have been a averaging 17 to 18 with 20 to 21 on the hi way. This is shaping up to be the best car we have owned. Having owned a...
