I'm thinking about 14 to 16 feet long on the 5500. Eliminate the bed in the back and wife and i would use the cab over bunk. Then all the space in the box would be for living area. Also vehicle would be smaller etc.
My friends who are doing this now and have been for years in Africa and South/central America tell me things. 90% of your driving will be on paved roads, 9% will be on dirt or gravel roads that the locals drive all manor of crappy cars on with no trouble. 1% might be actual offroad. Enjoy your...
Jeep was ordered and bought new. 1 owner, stored in heated an AC building. 6spd manual, ordered with both hard and soft tops. Comes with 6 extra correct rubicon wheels. All stock, have all paperwork, etc. 48k miles. Small dent on hood when I fell on it. Located in Home, PA. Mark...

It is a Colt Mg40. Made in the 1930's and runs like a sewing machine. Only a lot faster. I can shoot it in 30-06 or 8mm. Around 925 rds/min. Yes it's a blast to shoot.
Traded for a super C coach actually, then I traded that for a new 45' DP which I still have along with the jeep and trailer and a new RZR I got in Jan. Great truck though.
I have a mega cab 3500 dually on order now. So I will grab a smaller TC this fall for when I do a quick trip or 2.
I have looked at the Isata 5 since new. There is a ton of chatter on these over on the Berkshire forums. Lots of people doing exactly what you suggest.
Awesome build. I did this one a couple years ago. Then traded for the super C and 6 months later traded for the 45'DP. I ordered the truck and then got the bed installed and then everything else.and then I do miss the truck and the dual tanks.
