My 80 is diesel and can tow pretty well, but I don't want something too heavy. It's rated for 8500kgs.
I'll checkout the classifieds, for sure.
I really don't like the idea of a 30 minutes-to-setup folding canvas hell thing. Too used to a hard shell RTT, I guess.

I'm really starting to lean this way. I just needs to be a box with a foldable bed/couch and table, inside. I like it. Lots of commercially produced teardrops that may work for this as well.

Yeah, that's a good possibility. But it requires some flat place to park, and does not easily permit me hauling things like kayaks and bicycles.
What do you sleep on, as a couple on the ground?

I need to expand my current setup, which is an 80-series with only front seats and an RTT, to a setup that can handle a family of four.
Here is a rough list of my requirements:
The two kids need a separate place to sleep. An RTT is fine.
When traveling with the kids, I'd like to bring kayaks...
I would look at a bunch of these:

You would need a pre-filter. But they are backflushable.
Do you have a swing out tire carrier? If so, I wanted it on the opposite side, to avoid walking around the carrier all the time. If not, I would put it on the road shoulder side.
When you combine your start and house batteries, due to your start being fully discharged (otherwise known as self-jumping), isn't the current flowing between them going to be crazy high? Is that bad?
I haven't, yet. I likely would not leave trash in there if I was in brown bear country, but I have camped probably 12 months (cumulative) in black bear/racoon country and have had zero issues.
Also do the above.
And I'll add that we use Crocs as "bush slippers", leaving our actual footwear in the truck. Easier to slip on/off for quick pee runs and does not absorb moisture at all.

Exactly my sentiment! I remember rewiring the control box on my winch. That job started mid-morning and I'm pretty sure my friend and I were at it into the wee hours. We did a really good job, though. I think we argued about the route for the main positive cable for at least two beers…
