    How important is GVWR?

I always thought that it was more important to stay within the gross axle weight rating (GAWR), thinking that the brakes were probably factored into that. Suspension is simple to upgrade, brakes are usually not.

Higher Than Expected Voltage on Charger

Do you guys think the the intermittent current draw of the fridge would cause the "smart" charger to get confused?

Higher Than Expected Voltage on Charger

Yeah, except that these cheap starter batteries have no such customer service. :(

    Electrical Work Time Dilation

It is a Dymo RhinoPRO 3000, which will accept some heat-shrink label tapes. I never solder in automotive applications. My preferred technique is to use uninsulated terminals, which allow me to see clearly examine my crimp before I cover with quality heat shrink. But they seem difficult to...

Higher Than Expected Voltage on Charger

These batteries were installed new in January, and are cheap flooded Group 27s. I can't really do the suggested tests as I live in this truck, commute to work with it, and have a fridge. Happy to hear that the high voltage on the charger is normal, though. Thanks guys, A.

Higher Than Expected Voltage on Charger

Just went out again and measured the specific gravity at 1.235 or so. Which seems low. And the voltage has floated down to 12.85v. I'm confused.

    Electrical Work Time Dilation

Why does doing quality electrical work on a rig take 4x the time I expect?!? Having actually been in a rather remote area with a friend who's truck caught fire, I'm paranoid about wiring. Careful cable routing, extra-cautious wear prevention, proper securing to prevent movement, extra attention...

Higher Than Expected Voltage on Charger

So I finally installed a permanent voltmeter into my truck, so I can keep an eye on my battery bank. (The very expensive but super nice Blue Sea 1733.) Yesterday morning, about 22 hours ago, I hooked up a Noco G7200 (previous generation) battery charger to the two-battery 12v starter bank, and...

    Swing-Out Trash Bags

Weird, I missed that one on their site. Thanks for pointing it out, it is a better option that the one I had listed.

    Swing-Out Trash Bags

It is the fabric the failed, on mine. The webbing and straps look great.

    Swing-Out Trash Bags

Well, Trasharoon is replacing my bag for free. Fantastic customer service, as well. They did say that, for the cost of the fabric, it's as good as it's going to get. I might soak it in UV protector, maybe get an extra year of the new one.

    Swing-Out Trash Bags

Yeah, I agree. But what can you do. A.

    Swing-Out Trash Bags

That's a another good option, thanks.

    Swing-Out Trash Bags

Good find, that looks much better than, actually. How long have you had yours exposed to UV? A.

    Swing-Out Trash Bags

So, my black Trasharoo, while having been incredibly tough and absorbing tons of abuse, has been murdered by Ottawa's UV radiation in less than two years. I live in this truck and the Trasharoo is the only trash can I own, so I'm not sure I blame it. I need to replace it, though, so what are...

SPOT Announces New Device: spotX (two-way with a keyboard!)

I really thought Globalstar was a LEO constellation, but the coverage map makes it look a lot more like a fixed geosynchronous fleet with beams. What am I missing?

SPOT Announces New Device: spotX (two-way with a keyboard!)

Yeah, I was aware, I remember when a friend had their really inexpensive phone, but we had to consult a chart to find out when we could place calls. :) Have you tested your Spot to see how fast messages go out? I use my InReach to get medical/mechanical advice, and it sucked when it took 20-30...
