SPOT Announces New Device: spotX (two-way with a keyboard!)

SPOT announced a new device, the spotX, that not only does two-way messaging, competing with Garmin InReach, but also has a built-in keyboard. From my brief read, I see the following key pros: Finally does true two-way text messaging. As a built-in keyboard, which is fantastic. Less...

Do you really need an AC inverter?

Everyone knows that AC and Propane make you uncool. DC angry pixies and liquid cooking fuels all the way! :)

    Camp stove pots

You can not use metal in a microwave, nor plastic on a campfire. Maybe Pyrex glass would work?

Alu-Cab Has Landed In The USA!

I think that a bug-proof sub-room would be fine. i.e. I would be very happy with 270º rain and sun coverage, but only a small area that is bug proof.

I need thicker, studier, cookware that I can bang around from white gas stove to campfire and not worry too much about cleaning with whatever is handy. And a teflon pan for eggs and such. :)

    Softshell tents in constant rain

Even with a hard shell, after multiple days of rain with no opportunity to try it out, it slowly gets damp. Use a portable heater to blow out the humidity.

Down to past -25ºC/-13ºF, with nothing special other than a thick foam pad and down comforters. Sure, the initial shock of warm skin against cold bedding is unpleasant, and it would be a...

Mr heater buddy heaters in tents overnight

That's a very good point! I'd add that I keep very warm sleeping bags in the truck, for each occupant, regardless of whether I expect to be out overnight. They can also mean the difference between life and death in the case of a traumatic injury. A.

Mr heater buddy heaters in tents overnight

I also wonder why I would want a heater running while sleeping. It's lovely to be tucked into a big pile of 950 fill-power goose down, breathing crisp cold air! Even better with the girlfriend. We sleep like babies. She very much hates getting out of bed, when it's cold, so I will eventually...

Bought a pair of Cibié Super Oscar LED auxiliary lights: Now to wire them up and get some nighttime poser shots. I also purchased a set of Depo replacement headlight assemblies, so my lights will point in the right direction.
