Thanks for the info. I know this is not your project but 2 questions that maybe you can answer . What is a quick-cert? For the tent are there any concerns with it sitting like that the jeep, i.e. no cross rails for support like a traditional rtt setup?
Paint simulation is hard to tell, but I think the dark khaki looks good on the photo of the jeep with the factory hard top/same color as you. I personally would go with the dark khaki.
I get air through the panels based on speed and wind direction. In general anything over 70 mph. I will sometimes get it at speeds less than 70 that goes away with a change in direction. I haven't quite figured out what wind direction causes it under those conditions. I have tightened the top...
As requested, what you are seeing is the two panels with foam in between the two panels and then foam stuffed into the corners. Not very elegant but it helps. The strip in between the two panels is sticky so it stays there permanently, the pieces in the corners I have to stuff in there each...
Sorry I don't have pictures. I will get some next time I have top open (may be awhile as I am elbow deep replacing cv axle on my other jeep).
It is really nothing special I took http://www.lowes.com/pd_66679-81-02295___?productId=1096047&pl=1&Ntt=foam+seal crawled up top and stuffed the foam...
So you have the wiring (I assume from previous hardtop) just not the rear wiper assembly? I bought a wiper assembly without the wiring (didn't do enough research). If you are interested in the rear wiper assembly let me know, I am willing to part with it.
For the wind noise it may becoming from...
I do want to add that John was very responsive to helping me fix my leak issues. I am actually surprised that there are any leak issues as John incorporated changes based off of our discussions.
So I was one of the early adopters and lived in Florida. Rain was a daily issue. For the front no damage done people leave top completely off in the rain all the time. To fix front leak I put rubber washer under bolt that attaches top to jeep. I them caulked the bolt head and all around the...
I saw somewhere else you mentioned that there was some company interest in the top. Are they going to try and make the tilt up camper version as well or is that more of a side "possibility" project that may or may not happen?
My top is painted black, so I have had both. Only difference I noticed was the touch when closing it. The black is usually warm/hot to the touch where the white wasn't as hot. I have never really noticed a difference between the two colors in regards to the interior. I think Espo78's description...
I would say the noise level is comparable to the factory hardtop. If you test drive a jeep with a factory hardtop and you find it bearable then J30 will be a little quieter than that. You can also add sound matting in the doors, floorboards as well to help with road noise. Tires, accessories...
I am interested. Couple of questions for you. How were you heating the water for the system? Would this work in conjunction with a vehicle heating system, i.e. one that is warmed by the cooling system?
No, I have one from Sportz . It essentially looks like Jimbo's, but smaller and has no awning or screen room, etc. I bought it in 2005, so I think it has been discontinued. It is this one: http://www.streetbeatcustoms.com/stt85000.html
I have one. It is actually a great tent. If you don't want to attach it, the sleeve zips off and it is a normal dome tent.
Goods
We could change and then climb in without leaving the tent. This was huge during bad weather
When we left for the day we threw our bedding and stuff in the tent and...
