have these worked for anyone where they are really stuck? I'm talking stuck where a shovel and high lift wont get you out It seems like the soil would have to be right for it. I think I would rather bury a log or my spare tire as an anchor for the odd time I'm stuck, and alone. Thats just it...
Those cheapo ispeakers that look like a tiny round acordian sound decent for a little campfire tunes. I had friends with them at work and I don't think they are more then 10 bucks
wait... are you under the impression that HAM freqs could be busy in a emergency? You couldn't possibly fill all the HAM freqs. I can see your local repeter getting busy, but LOS will be wide open.
This is exactly what ham is used for. If cell and land lines are down then its all ham for civilians

The firestick is a proven winner. I went with Everhardt TSM4 48" because it is flexable like a whip. That may or may not be desirable depending on where you mount it. That also brings up mounting locations...best is in the center of the roof. All other spots will be a degradation of that...
I dont know anyone running MURS radios so those may be a bad choice. See what others you intend to talk to are running. If they are 4x4 people its probably just CB or ham. If you want the radio for emergency coms outside cell coverage then go with ham. Your hand held CB is fine for talking among...
I went to a safety thimble since I crushed and ruined a normal hook on the trail. Its a pain to use but I feel like it cant get bent or broken so its what I m sticking with.
IMHO you don't actually get what you pay for with surefire anymore. Don't get me wrong they are super high quality but a quality light can be had far cheaper with greater performance in any category surefire is in. Look into the zebralight H600 if you are interested high output compact headlamps.
The Engle coolers are 2" all around. That said I learned a lot about how to keep things cold after I bought mine. If I had known through simple tricks of block ice, pre cooling the cooler and packing 1/2 to 3/4 of the volume with ice.... I probably could get by with a much cheaper cooler.
I have my hopes up for this one. I'd rather have a 7" but this one is going to have some sort of new screen tech that may be the brightest yet avalible. Daylight visibility is very important to me
The Ford tanks are the way to go back there. This is my sole primary but it would make a great secondary as well.

If the vender is getting them into the country then hes doing well, as Pirate 4x4 members have talked about them being stopped at customs due to copyright violations with Rigid. They are the same style...
I loaded BCN on my friends nexus 7 and its great! The higher screen resolution means it shows more map then a phones screen at a given view level. The only thing I have seen with it is the nexus screen is not that bright compared to most phones. The nexus looks ideal for off-road nav, but the...
Back country navigator can handle what your asking for if I understand your need to "create" maps. I plan trips on google earth and make a route line...Import that into BCN...cache the maps I need...and follow the line to where I want to go.
havnt had time to read all the replys, but thought I'd give my input after owning a TR for a few years. The price was a deciding factor for me when I purchased. I knew I would like the bag, but did i need it? No... So that puts significantly more expensive bags out of the question for a first...
