Definitely. Not done with the tedious task though, once it all comes back from plating it has to be used to assemble the truck! Luckily I am heading to Colorado tomorrow to pick up 2 Patrols, both 66's. One is a soft top and the other a hard top. The hard top truck is to serve as our parts truck...
Nearly to the end of a sage that is the hardware for this truck! I believe I went off about it before in the thread, it was scattered, it was scavenged and it is now compiled and nearly restored! Once it was decided to retain as much as possible of the original hardware on the body of the truck...
Thanks! Again, much rather have 17's but they are nearly 2x the cost.
I looked back and I mentioned it a bit but didn't go into detail much on the subject. My 80 was painted by the p/o, clear coat peal? It seems like a soso paint job at best. The clear coat on it though is pretty shoddy. I had...
Got my new wheels mounted up. I like the look of the truck about 10x more now! Little to much rubber and not enough wheel for my tastes but it will do and was the cheapest option. Now I just need to build a rear bumper with tire carrier for my spare!
It really doesn't have this much stink...
Well, I haven't had the truck in 2yrs so I am going by memory. And once it was stuffed up in there it wasn't like I was messing with it anymore!
Cheers
Ya way odd Kurt. Again, just curious but there must have been some reason why Toyota did it this way. Only other soft top truck I have ever seen with full rear doors is a LG61 Patrol with a factory soft top. And the rear doors could be split. Were the late FJ40s soft tops this way too?
Cheers
Just bought new wheels. Don't care for my current polished aluminum ones.
Went with Mickey Thompson Classic 3s, 15x8 with a 3.63 bs. Originally I had wanted to go with a 17 but since I wasted a tire in JV and had to replace it I got a new Cooper STT. Found the STT online for $185 a tire so...
Should have thought of that when we built mine. Sometimes these things just don't occur to you though! Sounds simple and efficient, logging this idea in my brain!
Cheers
Never had a single problem getting 91+. 25,000 miles logged south of the border. Best I found was 96 at the pump in Panama and I got the best mpg ever recorded in the truck with that fuel. 16.5mpg!
Cheers
Ya no worries Jake, give a call. I hope to be on the river a bit this spring too but am slammed with work so who knows.
I am renting the shop right next to my house. Screaming deal, it is right here, my roomie wants to split cost or help with rent on it too, 2,000+sqft. so had to do it!
Cheers
Not sure if you are asking me but yes I was. I ran the pump a number of times dry and never burned the pump up. However, it certainly was something I tried to avoid. I was thinking some kind of alarm or flashing light on the dash when the pump was running so I wouldn't space it off. Like I said...
I find that strange about the rear doors. I think the truck would look really odd with the top off and full rear doors. So perhaps Toyota didn't think many people would be running without a top? And maybe it was more designed for keeping the cab cool? Just seems odd to me since every other truck...
IH makes a few diesels, one was even put in Fords during the 90's. Have you looked into those? I know a guy with a mid-90's full sized Ford with the IH and he absolutely loves it. Been extremely reliable for him.

Or older Duramax?? I...
Hey Kurt, I am curious. Does the top of the rear doors come off when the hardtop is removed or is it meant to be run with no rear doors? I have never looked closely at 70s I have been around and I can't tell from your pics.
Cheers
Nice Cruiser Kurt!
Got to love a SWB with a removable hardtop. I am also keen on the color of your truck.
I had a Kaymar on my 60. I liked it but the first time I stuff the long ******** of the 60 into the ground it bent up the Kaymar into the body and gave me a slight dent where it contacted...
Counting the days until a new big fat shop for me! 34 and counting! :)
Pissing rain and sleet here lately so really looking forward to a full sized shop.
Top priority for me when I get into the shop is,
Get the 62 on a rotisserie, dump the rest of it.
Pull the portal axles from the Patrol...
Bout' time eh!? ;)
At this time I am thinking 10-12" King c/o in front and radius arms. May change my mind on the radius arms, if I did it is a 3-link with a panhard. Currie style torsion bar for the sway bars, front & rear. Rear is going to be coil springs, stock height 80-series, possibly HD...
