    Driving at payload limit ??

OP already has a near-new F-150. Unless he wants to grossly overload it, it probably makes financial and risk management sense to upgrade what he has, rather than to buy another truck. Prudent and sensible mods can probably get him what he seems to need. 1600 pounds is not that much of a...

    Driving at payload limit ??

Absolutely. Factory tires are usually the weakest point in half-ton trucks. They are adequate, but barely. FWIW, I haul a lot in my 1998 GMC K1500, bought new. Loads are sometimes up to 4,000 pounds for short trips, and I have had 4400 in it on occasion. It went from 16" LRD to 17" LRE on...

    Dual battery option?

    Dual battery option?

There are no electronics in a toggled solenoid. It's all electro-mechanical so less to fail, and it's a lot cheaper than an ACR. A Blue Sea rotary switch is even simpler and more reliable, but requires some pretty fat cables in my setup. I don't really need or want anything that's automatic...

Your ignorance may be exceeded only by your arrogance. And it's "too," not "to." And from a purely grammatical standpoint, it should be "who" rather than "that."

    safety film

I ordered 3M 90% VLT (10% blockage)for my trucks last year and the numbnutz at the tint shop installed 70% VLT because "nobody wants 90%." On familiar roads in the desert at 3:00am, I could not pick out landmarks without rolling down the side windows, and I have a lot of lights on the truck. I...

    Battery Isolator

I don't know about ACRs, but my isolator is a fairly simple toggled solenoid from Painless Performance. With my setup, I can remove either the starting battery or the house batteries and still start and drive the truck. No damage to the isolator.

Simple Dual Battery Set-up Gone Wrong

True dat. About 15 years ago I was having a fair amount of trouble with the dual Optimas in my Z71, and I happened to snag an invitation to SEMA. When I got to the Optima display, I spent about 40 minutes talking with the reps in the booth about their batteries and my issues. They insisted...

    safety film

Not directly relevant to your question, but any film will reduce light transmission through the glass, so you won't see as well at night. Figure about an 8% loss for each layer of whatever, whether it's windshield glass, glass film, or even your eyeglasses. It all adds up. Another factor to...

Simple Dual Battery Set-up Gone Wrong

Well, Optima clearly states that these Yellows are deep cycle batteries. This from the link you posted: Maybe a solution, maybe not. Not all Optima Blues are deep cycle, and their dealers are often confused about the two lines of Blues. Check the Optima website to confirm my memory, but the...

    Homemade bridging ladders

I am not an engineer, but my guess is that substituting 2x4 L for the 3x3 L would give you more resistance to deflection with no change in weight, using the 4" leg as the bottom chord. When you fasten the top plate, try to spring a slight arch into the ells to pre-tension the top plate. An...

The factory fogs on your Ram are probably made by Hella, and are pretty good lights. You can improve them substantially with a pair of HIR 9012 or 9011 bulbs. Anything else would be spending money unnecessarily. Call Susquehanna Motor Sports in for the bulbs. Fogs are not for high speed...

Roof rack water tank for solar shower

Not a good idea. Water is not compressible (mostly), but air is, and compressed air stores a lot more energy than pressurized water. If the tank lets go, it can get ugly. Low pressure is OK, but don't do it with a compressor.

    Dual battery option?

A toggled solenoid isolator is a much simpler and probably more reliable solution. You are in full control, no ACR to rely upon.

T Yes, with AGMs. No problems.

    Thoughts on dewalt tough chests?

The issue I have with big boxes is that when they are full, they can be very difficult to handle. I prefer smaller boxes that stack, like the mid-size Ridgid box.

My 12 volt USB chargers are dieing.

One guy I hunt with uses his iPad in my truck for hours on end while we are traveling. Never a problem with Blue Sea sockets and USB inserts. I don't remember the wire we used for the aftermarket sockets, but it's fat.

My 12 volt USB chargers are dieing.

Cheap USB sockets? Undersized wiring? I have had a bunch of Blue Sea and Marinco USBs in my truck for 1-2 years and they are fine with iPhones, Android phones, iPads, and battery-powered speakers. No laptop charging that I can recall.

Running battery cable into truck bed for dual battery setup

It'll be just peachy. My GMC has had dual AGMs in the engine compartment for about 18 years with no problems other than normal replacement and one burned up aftermarket alternator. The alt that burned up was an expensive custom job that failed in EBF AZ and the only replacement I could get was...

Water and batteries mounted under a truck

No enclosures on mine, wide open on modified battery trays, mounted to the frame rail but tucked up high against the sheet metal cab floor.
