    Articulation vs. Ground Clearance

I flipped my 712m Pinz on it's side super easy once. And it wasn't in extreme terrain. About an 18" tall ledge in the mud, hit it with not much speed but not 100% straight on. The front came up onto the top of the ledge, back RHS dropped into a hole and over she rolled onto her RHS. The good...

    Articulation vs. Ground Clearance

Very obviously articulation. You can drive over just about anything with enough of it and lockers. If your truck is getting hung up due to ground clearance, you are most likely picking the wrong line. Deep mud would be different. For that, clearance and traction is key along with some hp. For...

Diesel Conversion Options for Expo Rig

Like everybody keeps saying, you need to be able to weld. And you need to be able to weld good. Booger welds on engine mounts are a not a good thing. Forget about what diesel has the best parts supply in Latin America. Most of them are Toyotas and Nissans and most of those are small. Not to...

1964 Nissan Patrol soft top restoration

So I had some stuff cadmium plated along with the zinc load of parts. However, I held off on posting pictures because it came back not as expected. A friend had told me the yellow coating you see often on stuff is cadmium, so that is what I ordered up. Unknown to me it is zinc with yellow...

1964 Nissan Patrol soft top restoration

This week has been working on more prep of black parts, prep for paint that is. We have all the brass/steel bushings found in the pedal/clutch/throttle linkages pulled and organized. Having new ones turned up by a machinist, there is close to a dozen bushings. Also been tearing down the two...

Handling Rough and Washboarded Roads at Speed

Shock fade will play a part too. I would say on 90% of my off pavement driving, I air down, even for just gravel roads. I have ran as low as 5psi in the rocks. But generally 10-25psi is normal for offroad. Never had a problem with airing down myself but have had problems from not airing down...

1964 Nissan Patrol soft top restoration

The rear axle brake backing plates were pretty trashed. The front generally have more oil & grease on them and they don't get so bad. We removed a good lower backing plate from a front axle and welded it on the rear axle backing plates. They came out nice!

1964 Nissan Patrol soft top restoration

We got back some of the items that were sent out for plating. I think they turned out awesome! many things look brand new and they are nearly 50yr old parts! Please keep in mind a lot of these items are to be painted just like stock. However, a lot of these items are wear point parts and as...

RMP&Os 1977 Patrol Ute build for overlanding

Thanks! The Ute is in the shop. :ylsmoke: Time to tear the body off it, pull the axles and start in on the build! About time!! Here is what is left of the 84 patrol that is getting scrapped. I think my buddy might use the fuel tank as an aux tank under his 80-series Cruiser. ;) And the...

RMP&Os 1977 Patrol Ute build for overlanding

The 84 MK Patrol, dubbed "The Silver Bullet" by some friends, is now officially DEAD! I took my time killing it since I wanted to save some items. I have a few boxes of stuff I kept for spare parts on my 83 Patrol or for using on the Ute build. I kept the windshield from the 84, the...

theDangerz- still going, different rig, new adventures

Just an idea for you... I met a guy a few years back while in Baja. He was/is hitch hiking to the tip of South America. He was on the cheap and didn't even have a camera. What he did have was a sketch book. Rather than taking pictures, he sketched. Three years later he is still hitch hiking and...

I guess the spider was a Huntsman, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Huntsman_spider :littlefriend: I didn't find any more Aussie nasties but did get the 84 Patrol nearly stripped to a rolling chassis. Got about $1.50 in Aussie change and a few .22 rounds. Cheers

    An expedition truck on portals...

You should be happy with the results. I sipped a set of Maxxis Creepies that were scary on snow/ice. After sipping they performed at least 5x better. I found a tire siper on Ebay for under $100. Lot's of them on there ranging from cheap to expensive. Or you siping for a different reason than...

    An expedition truck on portals...

Hey I am just curious about this. Wouldn't whatever it is, wheels, suspension lift, axles, ect need to only be legal in your country or the country the vehicle is registered in? Or does it have to comply with say Russian road laws/safety if traveling through that country? In the USA yes DOT is...

RMP&Os 1977 Patrol Ute build for overlanding

Got the 84 Patrol in the shop (donating axle housings) and the motor all pulled and mounted up to a stand. So I am ready to start gutting the 84 Patrol now. Already cut most of the body off the front of it. Should make quick work of it with a half case of beers, the sawzall and some good loud...
