    Moving 7,000lbs...rims & tires ?

My 1998 GMC K1500 half ton often carries loads of stone that are heavier than 4,000 pounds, with no significant problems. Truck has been upgraded with late-model GMC 17x7.5 forged alloy wheels, 33" E-rated Nitto Grapplers, and hydro-boost brakes from a one-ton truck. Suspension and steering...

Fox vs King: 2.0 Remote Reservoir Coilovers - Durability & Performance Comparison

I have had several sets of factory and replacement Bilsteins on several different trucks over the years. They are just fine for what they are, but not nearly as good as the Fox reservoir shocks that went onto the Dodge last summer, replacing the OEM Bilsteins. The Foxes are definitely better...

    Water Tank

Those translucent PE tanks let in enough light to grow things inside the tank if it's mounted on the outside of the truck, so probably not good for potable water on longer trips, unless you drop in purification tabs or a bit of chlorine. An advantage of PVC and ABS is that they are opaque and...

    Tow Hitch Rating and Recoveries

In the desert there are no trees to winch from. Mats often eliminate the necessity of dragging out a Pull-Pal or burying your spare to create a winch anchor. I also have a winch, but it's a major pain to use where I occasionally get stuck.

    Tow Hitch Rating and Recoveries

Depending on the stuck, mats are a whole lot faster and easier than pulling cable. And no moving parts to fail.

Even If You Don't Race, Tell The EPA To Mind Its Own Business

Government is completely out of control. It's no wonder that the electorate is really, really, pissed.

    Headlamp assemblies

That's why I had to go to projectors retrofitted into a fresh set of stock housings. Not ideal, but the best there is for this generation of truck. I'd much rather have 7" round or quads of some sort with Philips HIR in both sockets, but then I wouldn't have a Power Wagon. There are places on...

    Maxtrax group buy?

When I needed some from the old distributor, I just called in the order and had two pair on my doorstep in a few days. Probably just need to get the supply chain refilled under the new regime.

    Headlamp assemblies

Of course it's bulbs. This is a headlight discussion and Hella does not make replacement headlights for the '05 Ram. OP has an '05 Ram and I have an '05 Ram. I ordered my Hella capsules from Susquehanna Motorsports. Limited choices for the Dodge factory sockets. Also tried the Sylvania and...

    Headlamp assemblies

I tried Hellas in my '05 Ram. Better than stock, but still not good. The lens and reflector design on the '05 Ram is so bad that nothing can make it work properly. Only solution I could find was retrofit HID projectors in the stock housings.

What roof rack lights do you run?

I used PIAAs until I got a set of Hella halogens. Much prefer the Hellas in terms of output and patterns. Build quality on the PIAAs is excellent, but I found that they just did not put out as much light as I had expected. I still have PIAA driving and fog lamps on one truck, and Hella...

    A New Generator?

I bought my "new" generator today. Found a Yamaha EF2000iS (not the new v2) that is new but left over from a boat project. Boat owner decided to use something different so the boat builder had the generator just sitting in a closet. Paid $725, including a Yamaha hour meter, magnetic drain...

Parellel batteries of different size only. Yes or no?

Well, not necessarily. If you select your batteries carefully, you can use the same type of battery in different size and construction. Example: All Odyssey AGMs are deep cycle, dual purpose batteries by design, so you can use a Grp 65 as your starting battery and a Grp 31 as the house...

Parellel batteries of different size only. Yes or no?

I have been running mixed batteries for years in two trucks. Sometimes with one Optima Red and the other an Optima Yellow. Sometimes with one small Odyssey and the other an Optima, Red or Yellow. Seven years with a big Odyssey and a small Odyssey. Currently have a big Odyssey and two smaller...

    Headlamp assemblies

I have a 2005 Ram. Factory headlights were miserable, no matter what I tried, and I tried everything. If you read the headlight threads on the PW Forum and on DodgeTalk, you will find that nobody is/was satisfied with the factory lights. You can get a very modest improvement by using better...

Advice on finding the right adventure vehicle sub $5000

Probably true, but GM uses that designation as an option code on their vehicles, and some of their G80s are apparently Eaton lockers, while others of their G80s are just clutch-pack limited slip units. Is Eaton making the LSDs for GM or just the lockers?

Advice on finding the right adventure vehicle sub $5000

"G80" is a GM options code that indicates either an auto locker or a limited slip, depending on the vehicle. My GM truck has the G80 locker and my GM SUV has the G80 limited slip, but both have the G80 code on the build sheet in the glove box. Clearly the same code on both but not the same...

    LED Light Bar Hesitation

When I installed Rigid LED backup lights on my truck, the first few times I used them, they would spontaneously go off at about 30 second intervals, stay off for maybe 15 seconds, and then come back on. Timed it with a stop watch, and it was very precise. Called Rigid, they told me to check my...

    A New Generator?

Got a little more info out of Yamaha (like pulling teeth). Yamaha won't let customers talk to the tech people, you only get to talk to customer relations specialists and they don't know anything. Yamaha told me that tech support is handled by their dealers, and I told them the dealers don't...

Ram 1500 from Hill country build

I tried everything in my '05 headlights, finally installed custom Morimoto HIDs. Problem solved, but expensive. The 2011s have different headlights, better than the 3G, but still crap. Read the headlight and other upgrade threads on the PW Forum for some ideas about what works and what...
