Subaru owners: Let's see your expedition rigs!

If anyone is looking to retain highway performance but needs a beefier tire and a little more aggressive tread I’ve been really happy with the BFG Advantage pro so far. Little heavier rubber compound holds up nice in the towing, very mild side wall luggs. Its not a trail tire but easily a dirt...

    New to Cruisers-Family Friendly?

The 100 series and the first gen Sequoia both hold a really high crash score. After a neighbor told me about his brothers family being hit by a F150 doing 50+ while they were stopped at a light I had a new interest in newer respected crash worthy rigs for the family hauler. They were launched...

    New to Cruisers-Family Friendly?

My J80 was a family hauler, pre air bags and all that. Its ok for a family of 4 but we moved to a slightly more modern rig for family safety in the crash dept. 05 Sequoia a 100 series would be great also.

Opinions please!! Buying a new truck!

Yup. Lots of great rigs and boats just sitting and rotting away as owners chase the ever elusive dollar to make the next payment. I think trucks that are unique ie not the usual format simply fit a different set of consumer needs. As such you get lots of people saying just get a xx heavier...

    Camping vs Emergency equipment

Update Grandma got out with a neighbor. Two nights in the car due to over crowded evac centers. I was able to go get her. Due to downed power lines and lost cell towers they had no idea how bad it was info was very hard to get and other than 4 short texts over 48hrs they were in the dark and we...

No more like “ yea so my truck has 70k on it, oh so you need our 70k service package that will cost you $4000. They change the oil, feel bad they are bending him and his wife over the back of the waiting room couch so they do a dealer cost $900 TB job to make it sound impressive then hand him...

    FJ Cruiser or 4Runner?

The 4runner, Land Cruiser and sequoia all had / have a seperate carpet section for the rear, starts under the 2nd row seat. Easy to remove and put rubber flooring down if you wanted to do that. I pulled mine in about 10 minutes.

    Toyota Hilux Galaxy

Those 80’s trucks were light and strong vs todays trucks are heavy built for swiss standards in crash safety. Its amazing how weight changes what can be done with the smaller trucks. That last photo shows how the bump outs on the doors tie the camper with in more with the cab. I kinda agree...

Trailer sway on a home built trailer.

Open bed with tailgate inplace? The air drag on the tailgate can reduce the tongue load and also generate enough turbulence to further the sway effect. My uncle built a few pickup bed trailers I remember him telling me the tongue length played into the stability factor some also. Probably by...

    FJ Cruiser or 4Runner?

This was my big surprise driving a friends FJ. At the time I had a 93J80 which had amazing sight lines. The FJ was shockingly the opposite. I liked my old 4runner way more after driving the FJ due to this. Id say thats the biggest bummer regarding the FJ its tight on space but you just pack less.

where are the Porsche cayenne expo builds?

Grrr lost half my post.... Check on State required reimbursements for failed coils. I recall our 1.8T we were reimbursed after CA State went after VW for the coil issue. Those werent cheap especially when they fouled up a road trip we were on. Those rigs are really cool, but I would probably...

Wow great info! Thanks for taking the time to post. The snow vs LED thing was something I just read about turned out to be a major pain clearing the head lights every few miles. Makes sense but dang majorbummer...

Who does a timing belt at 70k miles?

Its a good idea. Ive been told by a few mechanics that the belts do fail and they all seem to agree rubber life , getting hard and brittle same for old tires seems to be a big factor in the failures.

PICS of your bike on your vehicle

Cool bike! With the short wheelbase FJ? Get a small folding bike trailer. A 250 hung off the back of the FJ would make for interesting handling especially loaded with gear on big tires.

    FJ Cruiser or 4Runner?

I found the 4runner had much better sight lines than the FJ. That and usable space in large part due to the 4dr set up

    How good are Subarus?

This long time Subie owner some 330,000 miles in two Subies since 2001. Is thinking the diesel Canyon is a great alternative, very similar seating specs to the OB I currently have, better mileage, better load carrying ability, real 4x4 with option to bump up tire size etc. Though my Subarus...
