    Campfire container for restricted areas

Those look GREAT! I've never seen that before. I just put one in my Amazon cart. Thanks! One of my biggest pet peeves is arriving at a campsite and finding that the fireplace is in a weird unworkable place, so no fire. This will solve that problem! I like that you could have a fire for ambiance...

    LED Campfire?

Are oil lanterns allowed? I used to use those for camping. They tip over pretty easily and are hard to transport. LED and other lanterns do make a nice campsite ambiance. LUCIs are good, but any lantern hung from a tree or a line will help. I carry several and also use ENO string lights.

Review: Helinox Cot One Convertible with 15" legs

Price paid: $279 incl. legs on sale at Backcountry Edge. Regular price is about $390 with the legs. I wouldn't pay that much for any cot, but the sale price made it easier to justify this purchase. The Cot One Convertible is just as the name says: a Cot One (height 6") plus a set of legs that...

Suggest a single burner propane stove?

I ordered a Gas One Mini dual fuel stove based on someone's recommendation here. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01LW87Z9O/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I used it for a short trip for the first time this week, with propane. I can report that I'm thoroughly pleased with it and...

YETI HONDO BASE CAMP CHAIR - $300USD

I have a confession to make. After using the Helinox Sunset chair ($150) for a year or so, I decided that my webbed lawn chair was more comfortable. I still use the Helinox for kayak camping, but for car camping I use the lawn chair that I bought at least 25 years ago.

    Cook set or Camp Table?

I have the Alps Mountaineering square table and like it. It's $71 at REI and $40 at Steep and Cheap.

YETI HONDO BASE CAMP CHAIR - $300USD

It weighs 16.5 lbs. For that weight you can get a full-length adjustable reclining chair. I doubt it's more comfortable than my webbed lawn chair, which feels like about 3 lbs. Those are back in Wal-mart this year for $25.

    Electric Chain Saw???

That's a very thorough article, thanks! After reading it I think the Greenworks G-Max Digi Pro 20312 looks like a lightweight, affordable saw that I would use at home and for camping. $184 including battery at Amazon...

Compressible Sleeping Bag for Backpacking (Women's)

It's important to read the reviews carefully to get a sense of a bag's true temperature range. One bag I like a lot is the LL Bean semi-rectangular down 35, which I think is rated pretty accurately. For kayak camping I love the Bean 20 down rectangular, which also comes in a mummy. Bean does...

Compressible Sleeping Bag for Backpacking (Women's)

Here's why I think the Kelty Cosmic Down 20 will work fine: (1) The packed size is 8 x 13, which is perfectly respectable. (2) The mattress is miniscule, just 4 x 11, so there's lots of room left (3) You're carrying the tent and stove, freeing up even more room in her pack (4) A 60L backpack...

Looking for a Sleeping Pad? I spent a year testing 23 different models.

My first REI Campbed 3.5 developed the infamous tiny pinholes within about a week. REI replaced it and the new one lasted about 5 years of daily use until it got too compacted in the center and I replaced it. About a year and a half ago I got an Exped Synmat 3-D 7, with boxed sides. I sleep on...

    Favorite car camping sleeping bag

I like things to be lightweight and compactable even for car camping; don't want to wrestle with flannel. My favorite sleeping bags: LL Bean down 20 and 35. Put the 35 inside the 20 and you'll be warm below zero. I tested it at 5F above and was hot.

Tech Question: Handlebar Bag vs. Hydraulic Brakes

I have long cables to accommodate a front bag, which I consider indispensable. One issue with this is that if you have a light mounted at handlebar level, the cables will cast long shadows in front of you. You can overcome this by using a light mount about 3" high.

Suggest a single burner propane stove?

After reading this thread I settled on the Gas One Mini: https://www.amazon.com/Stainless-Portable-Backpacking-ignition-Carrying/dp/B01LW87Z9O/ref=sr_1_7?s=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1513568719&sr=1-7&keywords=gas+one+one-burner+stove I chose it over the regular size...

    Backpacking/car camping setup

This is a controversial topic that depends on individual perception, I suppose. I tried the Big Agnes Lost Ranger and had some problems with it. There were large pockets of cold air because the bag is held rigidly to 3 sides so I couldn't pull it in close to me to close up the spaces. When I...

    Backpacking/car camping setup

MATTRESS: I should add that for an extra 7 ounces you can get the Exped Synmat Mega 12, which I think is the most comfortable mattress on the market. Note the 4.7" thickness. Most people wouldn't consider this a backpacking mattress because it weighs 2.5 lbs, but I sold one last year to a big...

Suggest a single burner propane stove?

Thanks for the informative thread. I've been lugging a two-burner propane stove for years. On my last trip it occurred to me that I rarely cook two things at once and I started thinking about using a one-burner stove. What are the differences (ease of use, fuel cost, etc.) between the Gas One...
