Downloaded HEMA North America and will try it out. Seems not to have been updated since its introduction though, and not very much information to be had on how the North American app is progressing in terms of development and future plans.

You download them directly into the app. It's the app that's doing the downloading, after you steer it to what you want to download. You don't seem to be able to separate the map tiles (at least the ones I've downloaded, which include Google Maps) from the app itself.

Downloading some of the advanced MotionX maps can literally take days. Planning a lengthy road trip can mean you're downloading maps for weeks. It's the biggest design flaw in an otherwise excellent app.
