Ran my leak down test and found the cylinder with low compression was leaking out the intake valve. I pulled off my intake and popped off my valve covers to have a look. Unfortunately what I found was not promising. It looks like the PO neglected the engine and went too far between oil...
2 Weeks ago I was headed up to Crystal for what was gong to be a banger powder day. The 4Runner started to intermittently misfire about 30 miles from home. I milked it home and started to read up and diagnose the issue. At the time I threw a code for a cylinder 4 misfire and a fault for the MAF...
We all seem to have a similar opinion on the body lift option. My 89 also required a hole rather than removing the hood support. I made a fiberglass hood scoop and glued it into the hood to cover the hole.

Thanks, O.B.A.K. Unfortunately I totaled my daily driver traveling back from the holidays and was t-boned in my taco three days later. Luckily neither wreck resulted in serious injuries, but it means the 4Runner is my only rig. Hopefully I'll have my truck back soon and can return to making...
Is 15-18 expected in the auto as this one is? I had a 94 3.0 4Runner with a 5spd that was in the upper end of that range, but I think the automatics do considerably worse.
Took the dogs out to put a few miles on the 4Runner and even found some dirt. The swap seems to be running great and it was nice to finally get some mud on the tires.

Thanks, @ Blind Cleric. It's still covered in rust, but has good bones and things are finally trending in the right direction!
@Battleaxe - Your memory serves you well. No one could forget the pain that is dissembling this dash. I must of removed over 2 dozen nuts bolts and screws, multiple...
I spent the day tinkering on el burro and was even able to install a few parts that have been kicking around my garage for years. Finished grinding out all the rust around my windshield, patched any leak paths, and then finished with a coat of rust prevention paint. Ready for a new windshield...
General rule of thumb for 80's toyotas: Remove any chrome trim, find excessive rust.
I tried to remove my windshield without breaking it but that lasted a whole 10 minutes before an accidental crack. As expected I found plenty of rust and a number of locations that could have been the leak...
I believe I finally sorted out my starter issues tonight. After going over all my grounds and battery terminal connections again I determined my + terminal connection was sub par and there was some corrosion on the contacts. I cleaned up anything that wasn't shinny clean metal and was able to...
Added notes and links regarding the tac mod, oil pressure sender, and clutch components to the original post. The oil pressure item is particularly important because using the wrong one can damage your gauge.
If you think of other items that should be up front in the thread just give me a...
Crenshaw's photos reminded me of a few notes on the radiator that I had to dig up some info on when wrapping up my swap.
I used my stock 3.0 radiator. Only mod you have to make is to cut the upper inlet tube and weld it back in place to be straight (front to back) rather than angled. You can...
Thanks, Zidaro! Need to re-align the mounting to get rid of the gap, but the hood is on for now. Just need to sort out this intermittent starter issue that has been lingering forever.

Also worth noting in your hunt for a donor. I believe it needs to by 97' or newer to be compatible with the TRD supercharger. Worth keeping in mind if you want to keep that door open for the future.
