    Got myself a Dual sport!

Remember ATGATT! Get the best gear you can afford. You will be dropping that beauty at some time. Trust me, it happens to all of us. Good gear keeps what should be a minor inconvenience from becoming a major accident. Oh, and have fun! I'm envious. That is the size bike I want next. The...

    RTT as base camp?

For almost 10 years I had a Autohome Columbus RTT mounted to a Raven topper on my 2000 Taco Xcab. Took it everywhere and would stop and setup camp in minutes. I never did any herculean rock climbing with the setup but did trails such as the Lockard Basin trail with it on the roof. No...

Expedition Portal: The Land Rover 109 IIA Build

Um, how about electric windows and seats, oh and keyless entry? Just kidding! I love the way everyone who has owned one of these (including me) have all these wonderful ideas to take your "keep it simple" concept and convert it into something else. I would recommend checking in with Teriann...

Expedition Portal: The Land Rover 109 IIA Build

If there is one major mod I could entice you to do, it would be to swap out that POS 4 banger engine and tranny and replace with a nice straight 6 Chevy and 4 speed. The original engine is underpowered, eats gas, and is unlovable. When I did my restoration many years ago, I even tried a brand...

    My 2010 Tacoma escape vehicle...

Another way to match the bumper to the frame is to use an engine hoist and some 1" climbing straps. A couple carabiners may come in handy too. The engine hoist allows you to elevate the bumper and get it mounted all by yourself.

    AutohomeUS Columbus Rooftop tent

Never sold, thank goodness! Never got any bites way back when on this. So now it hangs most of the year from the Harkin hoist system in the garage. I bolt it to the roof of the wife's Outback on occasion and we go camping again.

    2012 KTM 690 Adventure a no go.

Say what? I've been riding a BMW Dakar with a FI Rotax engine for the past several years with absolutely no problems with the fuel delivery system. Living on the west side of the Rocky Mountains, I can, and do, ride from sea level to 8K+ feet. I put about 5,000 miles a year on it. There are...

    Switching from a GS1200 to a KTM 990

Thanks for the review. Very nice writeup. It's refreshing to see an honest appraisal from someone who has more than just a few days/miles on both bikes. I guess my only question would be; which one would you buy again?

    A new direction

Har Har! LOL on that one Ray. It is a bit wacky buying a 29 y.o. Beemer hack, but heck, that's less than half my age. So it is still a young pup, right? BTW, look who's talking. Not one, but TWO SI Land Rovers??? Ray, what were you thinking? Maybe we should get together over a case of cold...

STEP required In WA state it is required that you get both a motorcycle and a sidecar/trike endorsement to your regular auto license. S/TEP is not mandatory, but by doing so, you usually don't have to do the driving exam. Because I took S/TEP, even though endorsed by the Evergreen Safety...

    A new direction

Just came back from Adventure sidecar training class and it was a blast. Spent three days bouncing all over a field learning how to do it right. The KLR/hack setup I rode was a real eye-opener. So now I have my S/TEP endorsement. I will now be focusing on getting my hack ready for...

It's official - ADV bikes are trendy

Yup, I'm a Euro-Butch kinda guy! Actually, I'm just finishing up one of the best summers of my life. Started adventuring off with a weekend down in Hells Canyon DSing with some really great riders. Then a quick weekend at the Expo Rallye, near Ellenbsurg, WA, where I was one of the few two...

    A new direction

Yes and no Yes, I've studied Urals a lot. Decided on this setup for a couple of reasons; first, it is a lot cheaper going in than a new Ural. Second, it goes faster on asphalt. :bike_rider: Nope. I'm keeping the green! It is powder coated and would be a ***** to remove anyway. So am...

    A new direction

It's always fun to try something new in life. I'm getting too old to continue being thrown off my DS bike and think I can pop back up unharmed. The old body just takes too long to heal. But that doesn't mean it's time to sit back and watch daytime TV or find religion. I'm heading out in a...

    Tires

Tires is tires I'm on the second set of Michelin T-63's on my '02 Dakar. The VAST majority of my riding is on pavement getting to and from gravel roads. The 63's have proven themselves on every road type and condition except ice. I typically get 5 K off the rear and twice that off the front...
