1964 Nissan Patrol soft top restoration

I had heard you mention the Patrols on the ranch before but have not seen a picture yet. Pretty darn cool! The Patrol is a great fun old 4wd for sure and not a bad workhorse. This 64 spent most of it's life doing the same kind of stuff your uncle's did. The 64 comes from a ranch in southern New...

Travel warning information / route selection

I think what the government says is a lot of hype and a bit of BS tossed in. But I do agree with being aware and on your toes. If you really are concerned, the fastest way clear of harms way is the Gulf Coast. If you cross at Brownsville/Matamoras early morning you can be to the Coasta...

1964 Nissan Patrol soft top restoration

I put in a lot of hours on the Patrol today. It doesn't look like much in the pictures because it was all slow detail work! I added some new 3/8" drain holes directly behind the leaf hangers. I ground the #2 cross member weld back all the way around with the die grinder... Before...

    Pinz 712 Specs

Been near 8yrs since I had my 712 but here is what I recall.... This I don't recall exactly, I am thinking though 12ft. A 712 is loooong. Not much, even a short person has to bend over to move around in the back. So about 4ft if I recall right. Again, not much, maybe 3ft max between wheel...

1964 Nissan Patrol soft top restoration

This evening was welding fest!! Seriously though, we went to town on welding tonight. It is all done now besides the battery box stuff, some wire harness tabs being replaced and any fill in or clean up after I grind/sand things back. After more then an hour of measuring stock leaf...

1964 Nissan Patrol soft top restoration

Thank you sir. But just to clarify, I am not doing the welding on this truck. I am doing everything else (besides body work too) but my welds are not up to par for the level of restoration we are doing. I know an out of work certified welder so I gave him some things to do and put some money in...

    Stripped oil pan plug threads!?!

Temp fix, like trail fix....wrap a ton of teflon tape on the threads. With enough it should seal. I would just tap it to a slightly larger size and buy a plug with magnet to suit that. Pan in place. Then flush the engine a bit with fresh oil before filling it up. And I feel your pain on the...

1964 Nissan Patrol soft top restoration

Thanks bro, means a lot coming from you!! And yeah, sandwiched steel will have some rust/corrosion no matter what on a 40-50yr old 4wd. Just about got it all dealt with in this Patrol though. The #2 cross member bottom got welded on today. I think it looks killer! I will still have to sand it a...

1964 Nissan Patrol soft top restoration

Not much of an update but.... 1/8" plate is all welded in the top/cap of the #2 cross member. As mentioned, total thickness now on the top/cap is about 3/16" exactly. A big upgrade from the stock 12g this cross member is made out of. taped it off and painted it with Rust Bullet. It will...

The Baja Bus 1994 FZJ80 Build

As you know Jason, Steve's bumpers will take a good hit and leave you laughing. This one looks no different, nice and stout. I still can't believe the one he built for my Taco took a 25mph rear end and was still straight. ;) Jason has a secret weapon going into his bumpers but I won't spill the...

1964 Nissan Patrol soft top restoration

Today's episode is.... Welding pieces back on! The #3 cross member is all done, rear bumper patch is done and both sides in the rear are ready for shackle hangers, front patch on frame rail where bumper/winch mounts is done. Blah blah blah! Plating the whole inside cap of the #2 cross...

San Francisco to Ushuaia in an 87 4Runner.

I been to Villa De Leyva myself and it is an absolutely wonderful place. My buddy bought a house on the hillside above town, very cheap! There is also pretty good off-roading in that area. Some day I will return, via my own vehicle as you have. Enjoy life on the road!!

1964 Nissan Patrol soft top restoration

Today's episode was to cut the last bad areas from the frame and make patch pieces for it. I also coated the inside of the frame with Rust Bullet that are open now and hollow, ie #3 cross member, rear bumper, ect. Here are the rotten areas that had to go.... A pretty funky factory weld...
