Very similar story myself. Blew an air bag from San Felipe to Guerrero Negro. I limped it to Mulege and ordered new ones on the internet. Picked them up in Cabo and installed them. Continued south but they failed me again in Belize! Cheers and enjoy your trip!! :)

I like your build. I did one similar but in a smaller space, back of a short bed Tacoma. And mine was nowhere near as well built as yours. I may steal some of your ideas for my next overland platform, inside an FJ62! Cheers

Got some good hours logged on the Patrol since my last (photo) update. The #2 cross member has been welded 3x now and ground back 3x. Third time looks like a charm as now you can hardly even tell it is welded on. Going to finish off all the wring harness tabs on the frame rather then leave half...

I would not worry one bit about entering into Mexico or any Latin America country with a DUI on your record. In fact I wouldn't worry even if I had a felony drug record but I might expect to get searched! Now if you had done time in prison for say rape, arm'ed robbery, ect, you may get hassled...

That Jeep that drove the Darien Gap is super cool. I totally dislike Jeeps but to see that thing in it's original condition, un-restored, un-refurbished with all it's battle scars is just super cool.

I pretty much agree with all that and this is why I am building my own "custom" overland truck and never looking back! I sold my 04 Toyota for an old 88 FJ62 and even though the truck is not built yet I do not regret it one bit!

I will agree with you Scott if you keep it within GVW. If you buff things up a bit such as frame plating, longfield axles, trussing axle housings as need, ect you can probably get a safe 1,000lbs over GVW. The problems will arise if you go over GVW much in the brakes, clutch or the auto...
