    Sears Diehard Platinum 31M issues

Sounds fairly typical. When my new Odyssey arrived fresh and directly from the factory, it was a little low, so I put it on the Ultimizer for a full cycle before I even installed it in the truck. It still has a hard time staying at 12.84V. Without looking at the chart, 12.6ish is probably...

    Sears Diehard Platinum 31M issues

Didn't say that, don't know that. Did observe that Sears does not provide any of that info for the charger on their web site, and I can't go look at the charger because they do not appear to be available in this market. The Northstar rep told me last summer that Sears is shifting their...

    Sears Diehard Platinum 31M issues

I'm not sure what your point is there, but we are talking about "the most premium batteries," i.e., Odyssey, Northstar, Optima, etc. There are better batteries out there, but not for general automotive use. It's also "a rather strange coincidence that the rate of quality & performance problems...

    Sears Diehard Platinum 31M issues

Probably depends on the condition of your battery. Can you get it over 12.84 OCV after an overnight rest? If yes and if it never gets even a little bit sulphated, then maybe yes or at least better than nothing. I will say that my most recent 2150, installed 7/3/15, will not get to 12.84 OCV...

    Post up your drawer/storage system

Here is the back of my '05 Dodge Quad Cab Short Bed. The drawer on the right is about six feet long, HD full extension (almost), aluminum and stainless with lock cylinder and separate padlock hasp, custom by Ainley Kennels in Iowa. The front cross-bed box is a catalog item from DeeZee. Three...

Pelican vs. Boyt vs Condition 1

No, actually I am not. Don't know about the other guys, but I buy what I need at prices that are usually pennies on the dollar. In addition to my Pelican, Hardigg, Boyt, and Ibex, I have SKB and Americase and several others from various manufacturers. I probably have multiple cases in various...

    Sears Diehard Platinum 31M issues

I can't really tell much from the link to Sears' website. Most of the user reviews complain about cheap construction and plastic bits, so that's a reddish flag. That particular charger seems to be unavailable in California, so I can't go look at one. Our state government, in its infinite...

    Sears Diehard Platinum 31M issues

I already have the dedicated charger but when I bought a 31M for the Tundra I went with a Northstar. Northstar says their battery will work with the Ultimizer but does not require that charger. Optima told me to not use the big Ultimizer on any of their batteries because the charger would...

    Sears Diehard Platinum 31M issues

I recently installed a 2-watt Solargizer panel and controller on my Dodge with a 2150. It's only two watts but my calcs indicate that it will put out enough to overcome the parasitic drain on my battery, even on short days with cloud cover. I'm not trying to charge my battery with this thing...

Weight Savings of Synthetic over Wire on the Warn M12000

Dalko43, if you are in upstate NY, heat is never likely to be an issue for your synthetic winch line. Cold temps actually seem to enhance the strength of synthetic line, supported by the research. UV is easily dealt with by ordering a sheath for the first wrap of your line.

    Sears Diehard Platinum 31M issues

Well, that opinion is not consistent with the Odyssey literature, the Odyssey tech support people, the Optima tech support people, my local battery purveyor, or several technical papers that I have actually read, etc. The lead quality issue is the easiest to dispense with. Lead is lead...

Weight Savings of Synthetic over Wire on the Warn M12000

I Leak Oil, you are in Massachusetts. Not the same environment as southern Arizona. If you read up on marine synthetic rope use in Africa, you might change your opinion for those conditions. From the Marlow link: Marlow is a yachting site and weight is a bigger deal to a racing yacht than it...

More on UV degradation: Another dead link. I'll try to post the graph that was embedded. Here is the graph from the above link:

Here is more: That Samson link also appears to be dead. Don't know why. I first found it in February of 2011.

Found this from one of my old posts on another forum. Samson link no longer works, though. Still looking.

Weight Savings of Synthetic over Wire on the Warn M12000

I have never been concerned about salt degradation because we barely get rain here, let alone snow. And they never salt the roads here. My issue was/is mostly the UV degradation and the empirical reduction in tensile strength of the synthetic as operating temps increase. Not just a...

    Dodge 2500 orrr?

IF you don't need heavy load or towing capacity, look at the Rem EcoDiesel. Reports on the web show fairly consistent 26mpg, and I spoke with a guy locally who has one in 4WD Crew Cab and claims almost 30mpg at highway cruise. I have a Dodge 2500 Hemi and it is by far the best truck I have...

Weight Savings of Synthetic over Wire on the Warn M12000

Not web lore. I found the industry lab reports and read a bunch of them before I decided to stay with cable for now.
